I’ve read that satin finishes work well for some filtering and washing techniques. Is this pretty much the same as semi-gloss? Model master acrylics only has flat, semi-gloss, and gloss finishes…unless I need to try a different brand?
Paints come in 4 basic finishes; flat, satin, semi-gloss and gloss. Since filters and washes tend to settle into the corners and recesses of your model, you don’t want them to be shiny, as these areas are naturally shadowed. A gloss or semi-gloss finish in these areas would not look appropriate. But if you follow up with a overall flat coat, it really doesn’t matter too much what you use.
