I was filling a nice wing flap hole in a 1/48 F4u1A kit and ended up with some nasty deep sanding marks that the only way i know to get them out would be to sand and sand and sand…unfortunately i would take out so much plastic…there would be no flap left. Any suggestions to help fill in my sanding woes… [#oops]
Sounds like a job for Mr Surfacer (or the Tamiya equivalent, “Liquid Surface Primer”).
See here for more information if you are unfamiliar with the product.
You can brush it on, it self-levels very well. If your sanding marks are very deep, it may require several applications, but it will get you there… [:)]
There must be some damage control that can be done with putty and other filler.
I’ll let others give more precise advice in that. Despair not!
You might want to apply lighter pressure when sanding. And wet-sand if you’re not already. It yields better results and is safer.
hmmm…wet sanding is good…ill have to give it a try.
Mr. Surfacer…ill have to see if the lhs has some.
Thanks!!
TADA!!!
Mr. surfacer to the rescue! I haven’t used the spray can version yet, but the ones that come in bottles are excellent.
I accidently dragged a 100grit sandpaper across a nearly finished model awaiting paint, and Mr. Surfacer let me off the hook.
here is my famous advise:
take some MS (Mr. Surfacer) and fill where necessary. don’t fret about excess unless you’re really trying to conserve it to the last fraction of a drop
when the MS has dried, take a Q-tip and soak it with alcohol. now, take the alcohol soaked Q-tip and start rubbing it vigorously perpendicular to the direction of the scratches.
seams should be nicely filled and excess removed
good luck!
Thanks J!!! Now i have to see if the lhs, which is going out of busisness on the 3rd of March has some!!! That makes 2 within the past month here…BOOOOOOO!!!
Mr. Surfacer did the job!! I was impressed with the way it filled in the scratch marks from my sanding stupidity.
glad to hear! [:D]
may you have many relatively wonderful sanding experiences
