Any tan color should be appropriate–wash with raw umber, and you’re set.
One thing to be mindful of is clearance at the top of the hull edge. The periscopes of the driver and asst drive were pretty close to the hull roof. Make sure they have enough clearance to look down the nose of the tank. I saw a model recently where the builder had big sand bags that would have completely blocked the asst driver’s vision completely.
Also, make sure that your sandbags are about 1/2 full. If filled more, they would hold too much water and also would be more prone to bursting. Examine photos carefully to see how they look.
The bags would either be left in their natural burlap color, or… if the tank was camoflage painted, the colors would be painted over the sandbags in place as the whim of the engineer using the spray gun. I have seen several photos of this practice.
