Which ironclad was supposedly portrayed in this movie and is there a kit of this particular ship of one similiar to it? Would love to build it as it just looked wayyy cool sliding out of the river in the into to the movie.
The CSS Texas was the ship in the book, and was a real ship. The ship in the movie had a longer superstructure and look more like the Virginia (often called Merrimac).
I found one model for you, which must be about 3" long.
The real CSS Texas was unfinished and abandoned in Richmond.

I read something that the movie version was based more on a Virginia, then the actual Texas. The actual model appears to be completely fictionalized, but takes some aspects of multiple different classes of CSS ironclads and morphs into something completely new.
I would love to have the model that was sitting on the table in the movie.
That one on ebay doesn’t look right and I don’t know why the guy had to guess on the lower hull since the model was seen from a number of angles in the film.
Hmm. not sure about the one on eBay and the 700th one sounds just waaay to small. One about the size of the one in the movie would be sweet. Wonder how hard it would be to scratch??

That movie is what got me reading Cusslers books.
For a while I was reading 4 a week, sadly I’m a bit behind on my reading books still in my stash and have a few to still pick up.

Actually, I had read about all of Dirk Pitts adventures before they announced the movie. Clive is an amazing writer and ties things together that you would never think could be in the same story. I haven’t read any of the books with the new character after Dirk and Al. Personally, the movie was a big dissappointment for me since I had read the book, but most movies based on a novel are TBH.

For the life of me I could have sworn I did screen caps of the movie (specifically the model) a few months ago but now I can’t find them.
I’ve read almost all of the cussler books and here’s what i think of each of the series:
the Kurt Austin ones are almost the same as the Dirk Pit books so I like them. The Isaac Bell detective books are a nice change up and takes place around the turn of the century. i like these ones a lot as well . the Oregan file book are ok they are a good read from time to time. but the fargo character books are nothing to get excited about.
I agree about the movie. i was pretty excited about it when i heard that it was coming out, but was disapointed when i saw it opening night.
You might look into the Verlinden 1/200th scale Ironclad kits; the Atlanta and Palmetto State are similar in appearance to what I’ve been able to see of the movie ship online:

If ever there was a type of vessel that is an ideal scratchbuild project, the ‘casemate’ ironclads must surely be them?! I’d love to have a go, but scale drawings are very hard to come by in the UK.

I thought Raise the Titanic was first published but Mediterranean Caper was written first? Probably got them mixed up but I have read 95% of those on that list and have enjoyed all of them. Currently looking for them all in hardback to add as a collection.
i don’t know if anybody remembers this but Raise the Titanic was also made into a movie. I haven’t watched it in 20+ years so i don’t really recall anything about it though.
