Hi, i was wondering are there any kits of Saab cars available. i’ve done the usual searches on the internet and come up blank. i am after 1/24th (ish) or 1/18th (preferably) i am after any model of Saab from the 92 to the latest 9-3 and 9-5. i would really like the early 900 and the 9000. i also colect giecasts so any info on these would be appreciated too. cheers in advance.
Greg, I own an '89 900 turbo 1/1, but like you have not had much luck finding a 1/25 model version, however in the Scale Auto 2003 Contest Annual on pg 34 are a pair of 1971 96 Saabs in 1/43 scale. I have yet to even find even those tiny cars.
I’m driving a new 93, and to date, the only SAAB kits I’ve ever seen are all aircraft!!
If you need a Lansen, Draken, Viggen, or Gripen, you’ve got it made; need a SAAB car kit? Fuhgetabahtit!
Hi like you guys i drive a Saab (as well as a landrover and rangerover), its a 900i and the missus has a 9000s and my son jason has a base model 900. we are members of the saab owners club. www.saabclub.co.uk .there is a diecast saab 96 available by corgi in 1/43rd, its a 2 stroke (shortnose) in sienna beige. there is a new model 900 and 95 sedan in 1/72 available too by cararama. thats all i have been able to find so far. if any of you guys want the corgi 96 i may have a lead on some. let me know via this thread or by e-mail.
later and happy saabing. Greg
Greg, There have been a huge number of Saabs produced in 43rd scale as kits (mostly as competition cars) and quality and affordable handbuilt road cars. Somerville (Billinghay, England) produced a whole range of them. I am looking at their advertisment in a old issue of Model Auto Review which lists 92’s, the Sonett, a 95 estate, several in the 9000 series including the CS, CD, Turbo 16, cabriolet and even a Belgian police car. Rob Eddie also produced Saab’s in 43rd, Brooklin is another producer worth checking out.
I know people are these days preferring 1/18th diecast but the world of 43rd is massive, gigantic, huge (get the picture!) with a range that outdoes 1/18th by a factor of a zillion. The quality of Brooklin, Ron Eddie, Somervile will probably be better than most 1/18th scale now on the market.
I used to deal with Modelauto in Leeds (this was in pre web days). Try them as a first port of call.
PS if you want landrover/range rover models there are heaps of them as well.
Hi Nicholma, thanks for the info. i have got about 250 to 300 landies and rangies in diecast from arond 1/72 to 1/18th but there’s loads that i still want. btw i live on the outskirts of Leeds but havn’t heard of modelauto. do you have an address for them? i would love to get hold of the 95 because its one of my fave cars. i would also like a real one but the missus would have a big sense of humor failiure if i bought another car. (there is six in the family at the moment and possably another landrover (a V8 110 defender auto) coming soon that will replace the rangie. cheers for the info. Greg
Greg I stopped getting Modelauto’s magazine Model Auto Review in about 1996 but at that time their address was 120 Gledhow Valley Road, Leeds; phone 0113 268 6685. Since that time things may have changed but give it a go.
