Are there any models of the S76, 412 or possibly the 206L and the 407? I work for a large helicopter company and was looking at doing several models of our different schemes around the world and to possibly get into the dioramas down the road.
What would be a good place to get started in modeling as far as painting, techniques, and finishing goes? Any good model helicopter sites out there with pics of readers models? Thanks for the help!
I don’t know of any kits available for the models you need. Only the 412 could be made from a kit of a “21” or “N” with some scratch building of the rotor system and pylon cowl. There are models of these in 1/72, 1/48, and 1/35. Who do you work for? PHI is here in Lafayette and Air Logistics is down the road in New Iberia.
Chris,
First of all WELCOME. We’ve got a great group in this forum. All terrific people and very knowledgeable. It’s rare you can’t get exactly what help you need. Mel is an excellent example.
I agree with Mel on his comments but for some reason I was thinking I had seen an S-76 in 72nd scale. Mel, what do you think? I could easily be wrong as I avoid 72nd scale like the plague. Only kits I buy in that scale are helicopters I know to be unlikely to be available in larger scales.
On the 206 … I’ve never seen the Long Ranger in a kit.
Sorry but maybe someone else has seen something that will help you.
Good luck,
Paul
I’m actually with AirLog International…part of Air Logistics. Why is it that plastic models are so far behind as far as producing new aircraft such as the 76 which is to say is not new? Do companies take suggestions for putting a new model on the market? I kind of would like to stay away from the 1/72 scale also, but there really is not much to choose from as far as helicopters go.
Have as anyone seen a model helicopter done with Offshore configuration (floats, high skids, etc) and if so do you have any links/info?
There are two that I have seen in 1/35th and 1/32nd scale. They are the USCG HTL-4 (H-13/Bell 47) by MRC/Academy in 1/35th and the 1/32nd Super Puma by Monogram. Here they are:
Both are available at Great Models Webstore at greatmodels.com
I have built both as kits without flotation devices and they are great kits. Don’t know of any others in another scale.
ECSI had made a Bell 206 B with the early fixed floats. It could be built as a OH-58 with the “uncovered” T/R driveshaft on the tail boom. I guess they haven’t built any of these because they don’t have guns and rockets hanging all over them or Sharks Teeth! I’m not aware of any S-76’s in any scale except maybe a manufacturers model. Civilian choppers are always neglected.
