Hey Everyone. I’m looking for a 1/48th scale kit of the S-3 Viking. I understand that AMT/ERTL used to make a good kit for it’s time, but I can’t find it anywhere. I see that Italeri makes one, but not being an Italeri fan, I don’t know much about it. Can anyone out there shed some light on whether or not it’s a decent build - detail, engraved/raised panel lines, etc.?
I have an 1/48 ESCI Viking at home which I can check out (unmade and I think I know where it is) if you like, but these two links should be helpful and confirm that the Italeri Viking is the ESCI one re-released:

Revell I think also makes a 1/48 kit.
Hi ,
Irecently made the “italiaeri” kit.its not bad apart from the very dark smoked canopy!!
it’s so smoked,it hides the detail in a very open cockpit.the instrament panels are decals.
I’ve got this kit too. Actually haven’t had a chance to build it yet… Panel lines are recessed and detail is acceptable at a distance, but not overdone. Poorly detailed cockpit. There’s some aftermarket stuff available for it (eg. Black Box cockpit), but it’s hard to come by (out of production or overseas - www.Hannants.uk.co). The Italeri kit is a re-release of the ESCI as Bassman said above. To my knowledge and according to my own recent web searches, I couldn’t find any Revell 1/48 S-3’s, unless they’re so old that no one talks about 'em anymore. Don’t write off Italeri without seeing the kit for yourself. I think it can be made into a very nice model if some effort is put into it.
Hey guys, thanks for all the info. Sounds like an ok kit, so maybe I’ll give it a try!
