I have been building cars for years. I recently got the Diamond in the Rough model kit. Now the only problem…I don’t know how to add weathering to simulate rust and other added features that comes with a 40 year old car just sitting around. I don’t have an airbrush yet, so if you know of any other techniques that I could use, please let me know.
For simulating rust I use a product called “sabitennen”.

A similar product should be available from your local model-train shop or LHS.
Another cheaper and easier option might be to spray the whole body first rust coloured and than the body-colour, to show the rust in spots use fine sandpaper and sand through the body-colour till the rust colour shows through.
Weather after as appropriate and you should be set.
I use this technique as well to show paint coming of fresh new metal, substitue rust colour with appropriate metal colour.
Thanks, I’ll see if I can find it.
You can get it via:
Also check the Net for " rusting plastic" or similar and alternatives should pop up.
If you get it, I can translate the instructions for you.
