hey guys, just wondering, what is Russia’s current main battle tank?
T72s and T-80s are still their most numerous in front line service. They do have a few of the T-90s, but not many have been built due to high costs.
thanks Gino, Thats about what I thought.
So… what is the difference between the T 72 and the T90? I read somewhere that after Desert Storm the T 72 wasn’t selling if you know what I mean so they relabeld it T90. Is there more to it?
Maybe T-95 ??? A small numbers …mostly T-90 and a quite a number of T-80s and a lot of cold war stock upgraded to T-72M2 or maybe to a m3 version i guess …
Mostly T-80s in front line service from what I’ve been told.
I’m curious to see what, if anything, they’ll do with the Black Eagle project.
Yes me too. Even if the project gets scraped that doesn’t mean a model company can’t make a model of it though. That is if they can get some pictures of the turret. [8D]
T-72’s T-80’s T-90s (very few) Interesting fact to note, India has more T-90’s in service than Russia does. The T-95 (Black Eagle) (Chiorny Oriol) exists only as a prototype. I believe there are only 1 or 2 in existence.
There are MANY differences between the T-90 and T-72. The T-90 is equipped with 3rd generation Kontakt 5 ERA, and Shtora IR defensive jamming suite. Gun control and stabilization has been thorrouhgly upgraded, along with night vison capabilities. The T-90 also uses a different powerplant than the T-72.
Indian T-90’s are different however. This si ebcause Their electronics are of French origin and not Russian.
As can be seen from this link the T-90 is considerably superior to both the T-72 and T-80.
The T-90 is rather speedy too…

Here’s the source of the pictures. It has more pics and info about the T-90…
