Anyone ever taken a leap and tried some of the various Russian birds? I have always thought the Hind looked pretty cool I just have never picked up a kit as of yet? Whats your favorite non U.S. helo?
Well, in order of interest, I’d have to say the "Kamov Ka-26 “Hoodlum” or the "Mil Mi-4 “Hound”.
But my favorite non-US chopper of all time would have to be the old “Bristol Sycamore”, produced in 1/72nd scale by Glencoe Models!

Pharoah,
(All this applies to 1/72nd scale)
The new ZVEZDA brand kits are quite good. The KA-50 and KA-52 kits are among the best helo kits around. Their new Mi-8 and Mi-17 are both good, but have problems with the shape of the cockpit windows. AMODEL does lots of Russian helo models, but their mouldings are low-pressure, so they require alot more cleanup work on the modeller’s part. Airfix’s KA-25 Hormone is a classic good kit, and it has been reworked and improved by Sky High, which is an off-shoot of AMODEL. The best Mi-24 Hind kits are Hasegawa and AMT-Ertl, although that statement is arguable.
Don’t shy away from them - there’s lots of variety among the Russian and Soviet subjects. Not to mention tons of unusual 3rd-world markings to choose from!
