Was the white bands on Js and T34 turrets in the Battle of Berlin hand painted on? Just wondering if I should mask for a nice neat line or free hand it and give it some irregularities as to show field application/hastily applied. Thanks for your help.
From the pictures that I’ve seen they appear to be hand painted. I’ll have to see if I can find some pics.
EDIT: Here are some pics of my T34/85. I based the stripe off a b&w pic I found. Of course I can’t find it now.

If I were you I would look in a T34 specific book for original pics. Chances are that the T34/85s that are in meuseums have been repainted.

Either way, they were very rough looking…
All photos I have seen show them very rough looking. An educated guess says, yes, hand painted.
In all the pic’s I’ve got they look hand painted some neatly and others not so.
I guess some Soviets were better painters than others? [:P]
Rough ride for the bloke painting the turret stripe as the T-34/85 was dodging rubble piles and panzerfausts! Hero of the Soviet Union they ought to be! [:)]
I have a couple of 1:72 kits with the stripe as a decal, it would be easier to paint it and distress/rough it up the line as part of weathering I reckon.
Cheers
Mike
