I just got the IDF Jeep/Mutt and it has those vinyl tires[xx(] I have never worked with these before will they accept enamal paint? is that the best way to weather them? any other sugestions?
I use a light wash and then pastels for weathering them…works well.
I have used Testors Model Master enamels for weathering and the above method and had no problems with either. Good luck.
Hey worgoose why don’t you make a copy of the tires in resin if you don’t like the plastic ones, probably they look cool?
Is easy as 1,2,3,…
good luck…Gabriel Salazar
That is another area I have not triedyet.
Resin is simple to use after some practice, but it take a little getting used to. I started out with the “starter set” from Micro-Mark and have never regreted it. It has been very useful. As for the vinyl tires, I have found that you can get a real nice “Used” look if you rough them up with fine sand paper/steel wool and then just weather them as you would normaly. By the way, how is the rest of the kit? I have been thinking about getting one myself.
I think the kit looks pretty good with shap moulding and no flash, but I am not usually an armor guy so I don’t know what the bolt counters think. By the way is there a HUMVEE kit you could recomend (other than the 40$ Tamya kit)?
I do the same thing but usually as a by-product of having to remove the seam that always runs down the middle! [:P]
If you’re worried about the vinyl tires taking enamel paint, just wash them with a mild soap and rinse thoroughly, let dry, and any mold release agent still on them will be removed and you shouldn’t have any issues. If you also do the roughing up with some fine grit sandpaper, that raises the “tooth” of the surface texture as well, making the paint even more likely to adhere well.
HTH.
I sanded the tires so the paint would have something to grip to and painted them with Polly S Grimy Black. I’ve done the same to rubber tracks as well. After they are weather they don’t look too bad.
Good Luck!!![:D]
