Dear friends, I´m with a serious problem, the 5 rubber tires of my Chevrolet LRDG of the Tamiya… had broken, this exactly, had cracked, I don´t know how. The model doesn´t exposed at sunrises and the tires had not been glue in the wheels…I sent an e-mail to Tamiya however until the moment I didn´t get answers. Somebody would know to say me what it happened and as to get new tires for the model? Thank´s friends…[:(][:(]
hi , the answer is in the material tamiya made them from , over time the tyres degrade and crack , problem is the materail reacts to the plastic of the kit , only way is to buy resin replacements best of luck cheers ian
Thank´s Ian…but where I´ll find tires in resin for LRDG???
I think …I´ll have made them in resin…
Have the same problem Fabio…I built the kit some 8 years ago and when I went to dust it this year, broken tires. One of these days I may do something with them but until then I’ll live with it. I have seen tires on the market somewhere but unfortunately I can’t remember who carries them.
I heard the Dragon/DML BTR-70 & BTR-80 kits have the same problem…
Hey, Fabio…
I’ve had that problem with some Tamiya kits as well. Seems that the tires crack where the molten rubber flows through the mold and meets itself on the other side opposite the sprue. Maybe the rubber gets too cold when it meets. What I do is make an RTV mold of the tire and cast resin copies. I’ve had fantastic results so far.
If you want, you can send me one of the tires and one of the rims and I’ll make a set for you, or I can give you the knowledge needed to do it for yourself.
email me at leemitcheltree@bigpond.com and we’ll discuss it further.
Thank´s Lee I´ve sent a e-mail to you…
If I put grease in the tire before placing it in the wheel, it will be prevent the problem?
