Rubber Band Rips

My quesiton is a bit involved, so I’ll try to summarize it as best as I can. I have a Guillow’s P-40 Warhawk, that I plan on making into a rubber Free Flight. The instructions call to glue the nose cone to the plane. Next you have to insert a small wooden dowel through the end of the plane, to allow the rubber to loop around. At the other end, the rubber band is connected to the propeller’s shaft.

Now, since the nose cone is glued at one end of the plane, and the rubber band loops around a dowel at the other end…what do you do when your rubber band rips? How would you remove the old ripped rubberband, and how would you insert the new one? It seems to me that the hold in the nose cone is very small, not sure how to proceed. Please, anyone help. Thanks

Back in the stone age, (1950’s) we would build the fuselage and wings seperate. We would then mount the wings using rubber bands stretched around two dowels inserted through the fuselage. At the rear of the fuselage we used a hook to hold the rubber band.

All you have to do is remove the wings to gain access to the rubber band. Not quite to scale but it did work.

To make a powered aircraft, you will have to change the prop. The scale prop does not have the proper pitch to power the model.
