I usually prime with white tamiya primer that comes in the rattle can. i’ve noticed that it can come out with a slightly rough surface rather than the gloss that i’m expecting. i mist the surface sweeping across it and build up a single layer at once. the can gets shaken up at room temperature (which is probably not that warm in my house).
what am i using that’s causing the rough-ish texture of the primer? cold temperature? misting from too far away?
Probably from too far away. Sounds like the paint is partially drying before it hits the styrene.
Try getting a little closer. Sounds like too much solvent flashing off, either before the paint gets there or just after, before the paint droplets can flow together. Try raising the relative humidity, too if it’s low and you can.

I’ve use Tamiya spay can just once, on my tiger but I’ve use the wrong colour, (should have use dark yellow instead of olve green) need to remove the paint but how? Can anyone help me?
If you used Tamiya Acrylics, just spritz Windex (with amonia) all over it, let it soak for a minute or two and it will disolve the paint right off, just rinse with water after that.
Not sure about enamels or other paints as I only use Tamiya Acrylics.
Try soaking enamel in DOT 3 brake fluid—don’t use “synthetic” brake fluid.
Try warming the can before you shake it and spray. When I paint with a rattle can, I set the can under a stream of hot water in the sink. After it’s under the water for a couple of minutes, I remove it and shake it a few times and place it back under the water. Do that a couple of time and then spray your model. One word of caution - DON"T leave the can under really hot water for more than 4 or 5 minutes. Left under the water too long, the pressure builds up and can blow the bottem out of the can (care to guess how I know that?)
