ok guys, here is my OIF M2A2. before the critiques start a’ coming. i know that my exhaust is the old style, (i just can’t seem to find where i put my newer one), i know that my markings aren’t 100% acurate, and my guns aren’t all lined up together like they should be. but, lessons learned, here she is. everything on the model is OOB with the execption of the exhaust guard which was build from brass wire, and the external PE set from Eduard. all the external storage was included in the Eduard set. i made the MRE and water boxes from a template printed out on grocery bag cut down to 8 1/2x11 and standard paper for the water. (thanks to my friend that i always depend on). the TOW was scratched from styrene rod and brass strips.
any comments are welcome guys. thanks for looking.
I can’t comment on accuracy, but it sure looks sweet. The tow-missle is a nice touch. What is that barbed-wire looking stuff on the front and side? I haven’t seen that before unless I’m just naive to modern armor. [:D] Keep em coming.
its suppossed to be concertina wire. instead of going the expensize route and buying PE sets, i find that you can cut a single sliver of window screen to get the same effect. not as nice a bent wire sets from Eduard, but hey, i use what i have. thanks for looking
Het Roo, it looks great–the tow thing is SO COOOL!! I like your idea with the wire on the sides too, I learned something today![swg]
I gotta ask though–is it a trick of light, or is it just the photo…but it looks like there’s a distinct yellowish “spotching” around the bottom of the skirts. Is that part of the weathering, ie, mud? Or drybrushing gone wild?
The stowage and the periscopes are all well done. BTW, I’ll be emailing ya soon about guitarin’!
I like the bustle on the side. Is that included in the Eduard PE set? Nice build. Just an advise, do not use red or orange colored background because the picture take up its color. That’s the reason why everything is looking orange in the photo. Grey background is better.
Very nice build Rooster. I like the TOW effect too.
I have one comment about the stowage … it may be a trick from the camera but the stowage looks too shinny. A shinny look is not that bad for the whole tank but you certainly not want that effect on clothing material.
well thanks for looking guys. to answer some of your questions.
doog: yeah it is the camera and the backdrop playing tricks on the eye with the yellowish on the skirts. its actually dried mud/sand mix, and i think it came out pretty good. but the pink backdrop takes away from it. i only have three colors of backdrop currently. light blue, pink, and light orange. all bad for a desert color vehicle. and i’m still trying to get the hang of my camera. i’ve never used it in this way with close up shots of tanks, i lost the manual and i’m getting it off the net, and its just plain confusing at times, so trial and error with the photos.
yann: the stowage is a little shinny i noticed. although some of i would like to stay shiny, as the wet weather bags we used when i was there were made of a nylon material, and they could get shiny at times, but for the duffels and such, i should hit it with a coat of dullcoate.
constructor: ginos right on target with the Verlindin set. it is a great set, but i feel like they kind of trick you into thinking that it includes both racks.
thanks for the periscope kudos. for modern armor, i feel that they are more shiny and colorful than WWII time sights with all the laser protection and films in them. to conpensate that, i cut little squares of confetti plastic, and just glue them on. just have to make sure you get the right color. i remember most of the sights i have seen in my army times were greenish, and the gun sights being more of a pinkish. thanks again for looking guys. i’m thinking about making a dio, i still have to make one for the T-55 i did a while ago. just trying to figure out how to do it, and a cheap price.
Hey Roo, I had the same problem with backgrounds; unless you have professional lighting, the two different blues I tried seemed to really tint the models in really wierd ways; they kinda just overwhelm the model. I’ve switched to just plain ol’ white and have been very pleased with the results–try white, I don’t think you’ll be disappointed in the results!
heya chris[:D]-- nice job on the m2a2-- I must say I don’t know much about modern stuff, but I like what I see! what I really wanted to comment on was the ‘in action’ shot of the TOW missle— it is a gutsy thing to try and pull off and I think you did a really great job of it-- really did it justice![tup]— tread[8D]
