Roof Under Construction

Sorry…I couldn’t resist the pun ! [:P] Both Swanny & obiwan have corrupted me !

Anyway, here’s a few preliminary shots of Trumpeter’s 1/24 A6M2-N “Rufe” cockpit. There’s still many more detail parts & painting remaining to do. The Aotake is MM Metalizer non-buff aluminum, covered with Gunze clear blue. I mixed the Nakajima cockpit color, as my bottle of Aeromaster acrylic is old & dried. [:(] I scanned a pair of 1/48 Eduard IJN belts, enlarged them 200%, and used the printed copy as a template for lead foil, solder, & wire.

There’s still a lot to do, but anyone considering this kit, or their Zeke won’t be disappointed !

This pic won’t enlarge. Here’s a direct link.

Sorry about this pic, there’s a little camera shake ! [banghead]

Great looking pictures Pix!!! Cant wait to see more.

The detail is amazing in this large scale. You should have posted these on April 01 and claimed you were working on Hasegawa’s 1/72 Rufe. Would have been good for a few chuckles. Anyway, a great looking paint job on the interior and am looking forward to more pics as you proceed. Keep meaning to go check out the IPMS site ( I am a member ), but keep forgetting. Keep em coming.

When’s the first test flight??[:D][:D] Great job so far!!

Thanks, falcon, Rick, nick, Chris, fightinjoe, and Gary !

This has got to be one of the most detailed kit cockpits I have ever seen. I keep looking at photos of actual cockpits to see if they’ve missed anything. All I’ve found so far is a hand crank by the fresh air inlet, and a couple of tiny red levers on the left-hand “console.” I may add some plumbing and wiring that can’t be molded in an injection kit.

Thanks again ! This is fast turning into a very enjoyable project !

Great detail on that kit Pix… it’s really coming along very nicely… I can’t wait to see more.

A first rate job, thanks for the peek.

Great interior job and it’s not even complete. Great pics also. This forum is developing into a double hobby, modeling and photography.

Pix, outstanding work on the interior. The detail is most impressive. I built the tiny Jo-Han kit years ago. Guess I’ll have to consider moving up in scale!

Great looking build. Keep us updated.

Thank you, AJACKETSFAN, Dave, nkm1416, Keyworth, & magic !

Not only is the cockpit not complete, its not even glued. Outside of the seat supports, everything is dryfitted. I’ll probably get a coat of Future on it tomorrow, in preparation for a wash. I figure the cockpit will probably get done this weekend, after a flatcoat & drybrush. At this scale, you almost don’t need it. I think it will take the wash & drybrush well.

Thanks again !
