Roll Models: any Good?

Has anyone ever ordered anything from Roll Models before? They seem to have good prices on Eduard PE sets. Or does anyone have an idea where else I might look for good prices on Eduard sets? Thanks.

Dave

I’ve ordered a few things from them, that I didn’t see at other on line suppliers. Some here have complained about the time it takes to receive their orders. I haven’t ordered anything I needed the next day, so response time hasn’t bothered me.

Dave:

They seem to have a lot of neat stuff. Typical order time takes a long time to get there, but that being said my last order from them arrived about 4 days after I placed the order and I selected regular shipping. Maybe they’ve turned things around and are shipping quicker these days?

Before we moved down to the US, I had ordered some supplies from them icluding a waldron punch set and the service was great. They had it at my door in a reasonable amount of time and I have had no probs as of yet with them. Now, I only live 15 minutes from where they are located so the shipping is usually 1 day!!!

The seem to have a good selection, and fair prices, but I will never order from them again, because prior to placing my online order, I checked them out and nowhere in their ordering policy did it state it would take four to six weeks before my order would even leave the building. Only AFTER I hit the “complete sale” button was this important tidbit of information revealed to me. That’s deceptive marketing in my opinion. I called and cancelled my order the next morning. I suspect they don’t have their own stock on hand for a lot of their items, so they leave themselves a buffer.

Just whatever you do, dont buy from hobbybuy.com! if you would like more info let me know I will provide you with the link to the thread explaining why

If you want it fast then make sure Roll Models has it in stock before ordering. If you can wait then no problem. Some orders can take three weeks to fill especially if it is odd-ball stuff. They always come thorugh and are honest merchants.

I often order from Rob; he is often the only game in town on soem mreo exotic items. I have always had reasonably good turn around times, (usually 6-7 bus. days) and GREAT customer service. Roll is a small business and probably doesn’t carry a lot of everyday stuff on hand. so if you are in a hurry, go to Squadron or Great Models. As Swanny said, call first [8D] they are really nice folks and happy to assist!

Something you might want to try is what used to be known as personal contact. I say “used to be known,” since it seems to have fallen from favor in the modern, keyboard manipulated world.

Here’s how you do it. Find out their phone number and call them - then actually talk to them. If you’re lucky, they’ll have a really thick Minnesota accent. That’s always a lot of fun, especially for a 'Bama Boy - Go Tide!

Tell THEM what your concerns are, and especially share with them the concerns of others that you are hearing here. Let them give you the straight skinny about their policies, etc. They are likely a small “garage operation” and likely drop ship at least some of their merchandise. While you’re talking with them, keep in mind that they have been in business for as long as I can recall. They must be doing something right.

This tried and true method has always worked wonders to both dispel myth and provide answers. In case you need it, here’s their number: 763.545.0399

Im curious about the guy who lives 15 minutes from them, though. Why would he ship anything at all? Face-to-face is the ultimate in personal contact.

I’ve ordered from Roll Models for several years. They have a good selection of items, including some obscure things. I’ve gotten into the habit of calling to confirm if an “odd” item is in stock . They have e-mail, but it isn’t for merchandise questions [?] They are a little slow sometimes, but they are a small outfit. Prices are usually pretty competitive. In the 4-5 years I’ve ordered from them, I can count on one hand the times they didn’t have an item I ordered. In summary… decent stock, fair prices, need to call them for questions and occasionally slow. Hope that helps! Frank

Hey, with the hours I put in at work, I would love to have more spare time. But to be totaly honest, I had always thought of them as a mail order only. The thought has never crossed my mind that one might be able to stop by and brouse…perhaps a call into Rob is in order.

PS…I just map quested them…I lied…I am 31 minutes away…LOL…I know, I know…my sarcastic humor is very dry at times…

Thanks to everyone who has responded. I think I will try the idea of calling them first, I kinda want to hear thier Minnesota accent now. Maybe they will get a kick out of the Alabama accent as well.[(-D]

They are the only place I have found Missing Link conversions. I have been quite happy with their service when I have ordered through this online shop. Definitely reccemmended[tup]

Without reading every post… if there is a good experince/bed experinece tone… put me down on the bad side.

Very nice site wingnut. I like the walkaraounds.

Maybe they will get a kick out of the Alabama accent as well.

They just might! Everytime I visit my family around Forest Lake/Wyoming, MN, they get a hoot out of my Carolina twang.

Only bad thing is, I have to make my own sweet tea, as they dont mess with it. Too, busy drinking “pop.” No grits, either, if you can believe that! [tdn]

Yep been there done that. I asked for sweet tea and got some iced ,unsweet tea, with a couple of bags of sugar??? Not the same…[dinner]

Yeah sort of unrefined, huh? But, the ice fishing is tons of fun.

I tried it once. How do you cook that ice? It was easy to catch but, after I coated it good with egg and cornmeal and put it in the skillet, all I had was a mushy mess!!! [%-)]

Getting back to Roll Models - sadly, they are now the only source for the Waldron punch and die sets, unless you can find one on Ebay. Note I said “sadly” and draw your own conclusions.
