Here is Thunderbird’s 1/9 bust of a Colonial Ranger circa 1750’s. The figure comes cast in right hand/musket, tomahawk head, left arm to the sleeve base, cartridge box, right arm to the cuff, powder horn tip, head with hat and shirt collar, and one piece torso, including the blanket roll. While cast in resin, the body makes a heavy piece to hold and a challenge to clean up the blanket back connection. There were some parts that had some rough spot in the casting, particularly in some of the clothing folds, ‘
Artistically, the sculpting is a challenge, with the fold on the vest being horizontal and the sleeves creating a strong vertical line. I chose a base from John Jeffries f Long Island when I bought the figure and he fits it just right. My local trophy shop made the plaque.
I was happy with the results on the musket and powder horn. I’m okay with the face and vest, but not pleased with the shirt. After many hours working on it, I reached a point where I had to say, “Enough.”
Many of the parts had to be pinned with brass rod and I added a thread to the powder horn tip.
