I’ve been reluctant to show you this one but since we had just been discussing ill fitting models I thought I’d tell my story on this one. I saw this one on sale, like $12, 1/2 price, PE parts, what could go wrong. The very first step, the joining of the fuselage halves, suggested emminent disaster in that there was a serious fit issue. Ah, just another modeling challenge I thought. It seemed every effort to fix it only made it worse. It was kinda like building a house without a level. Even things that would have fit, didn’t later. Finally it was time to install the upper wing which sets on 10 wet glue strut points upper and 8 lower. Not easy or pretty. Then I got to the part in the instructions about rigging the 23 lines in places you couldn’t reach or see. The model had run out of its allotted time, patience and builder skills. No rigging for this guy. I only wanted the model for Max’s Museum to show advances in aviation by parking it by a F-14 Tomcat. Done. That’s my story and I’m sticking to it. As I say, Check it out!
Oh yeah, I feel your pain, Max. I had a heck of a time with the old Hawk (Testors) F4U-1 Corsair that Toshi finished up a couple weeks ago. Toshi’s kit seemed to have a lot less fit problems than mine did lol.
Even without the rigging, I like the way it turned out. If you ever did manage to get half the rigging on it, you’d be happier, I think. I built the 1/72 Academy SPaD XIII and I didn’t add all of the rigging, but it still made it look better than without lol.
Your concept of why you built this one is cool, Max. I like the simplicity of the build and scheme sitting next to the Tomcat. Makes for a good perspective. [Y]
Max, Looks like you beat it into shape regardless of running rigging or not. I mean, in 1/48, the wires would be what 5 thousands diameter, if in scale, so you can say you rigged it with scale wires. They are just really hard to see [:P].
Funny John, that was one of the excuses I thought up. LOL! Thread would be ropes at that scale! Also “beat it into shape” certainly applies! Funny again!

Looks good Max without the rigging. I left the rigging of my Roden 1/32 Albratross because although I did not have any fit issues, the cubanes were soo weak that is was next to impossible to try to rig without serious causing damage and frustration. Next WW1 plane I build, I am drilling holes in the wings and fueslage and pre-running the lines through before assembly.
