Roden 1/144 C-141B

Here is the Roden 1/144 C-141B, my Minicraft C-130J-30 needs a companion. I started on it yesterday and it is a pretty simple build. During the Viet Nam war the A and B versions of these flew over my house several times daily on the way to Travis AFB. Often with sad cargo.

The box art.

Not many parts to this one. Simple paint scheme, too.
Major assemblies are together. Fit is excellent, the only rework needed was on the platform that the nose gear attaches too, I had to file the sides to a taper and carve a bit from each fuselage side to get a fit I liked. And what was I thinking, why did I glue in the nose strut already? [bnghead] First photo shows the changes made to get a good fit.

The C-141B is one of my favorite one way rides. I am gonna watch this one.

Good to hear about the fit. I’ve been looking to get one and dress it up from Memphis.

Hanoi Taxi!

Looks like a fun build In Vietnam it was only the A version. The B didn’t come out til the late 70’s

Took a picture of one coming in at Udorn, printed it and had it above a countdown calender inside the locker door while there…We refered to them as “Freedom Bird”. They were the air taxi between Thailand and Clark AFB.

Then got stuffed into a “stretched 8” cattle car for the trip back to Travis…but at least the cabin was a lot quieter and more comfortable.
