Fantastic job. Any close ups of the business end of the aircraft?

Thank you. Unfortunately that’s all the photos I have of the build.

That a real beauty,I like it.

Thank you. Early Roden kits like this require ample amounts of sanding supplies and elbow grease!

I was gonna ask how much work went into the construction of this bird. I’ve seen builds that required a LOT of work in not only the construction of these models but also in the deciphering of the instructions.

You turned out a dang good lookin’ bird despite your difficulties here Douglas. :+1:

Thank you! It’s better than earlier Roden kits (like the C-124.) Definitely a more accurate 1/144 C-47 / DC-3 than the old Minicraft model, which is just scaled down from a 1/100 Nitto kit.

There’s a fella that I know that built a Roden bus. The instructions were crap but this guys modeling skills trumped that and he ended up turning out a fantastic build with it.

There’s a LOT going on in his thread but the bus that he built is off the charts.
Here’s the link : Roden 816 1947 PD-3751 Silverside Bus 1/35

Just scroll down on the page a bit and you’ll see what I’m talking about. It was no fun kit for him.

Having built squadrons of the old Minicraft kit over the years, I’d have to enthusiastically agree on the Roden offering. As to the instructions…I’m honestly not sure if I ever did any more than glance at them once, then proceed as usual, test-fitting everything twice. I don’t recall any difficulties. :slightly_smiling_face:

I have one of the early Roden kits, a Beechcraft 1900, and that wasn’t a good experience. It’s good to see the yours turned out extremely well telling me that Roden may have finally got their act together. Fine job sir!

Thanks everyone for the kind ords.

I think that you did a great job brush painting that SEA color scheme. I remember when I was a kid Monogram had a “prepainted” kit of “Puff the Magic Dragon”

I’ve always enjoyed brush painting with Tamiya acrylics (except white and yellow👎. As long as they are the proper consistency, they lay down very nicely and brush marks disappear provided you don’t go over the same area again and again.

Nice work on the armed DAK.

Thanks Tom. I remember my older brothers have that pre-camouflaged Monogram kit. I picked up the SSP reissue in 1995. Built it in 1997.

Thank you! Unfortunately I never got the hang of brushing Tamiya acrylics, though I know some modelers do excellent work that way. I used Italeri acrylics on this one. Not easy paints to find in the States. I usually order them from a vendor in Poland.

Hah, I must be tired reading your first post, I see now that it’s Testors not Tamiya. I’ve never had good experiences with their acrylics, so even better. :ok_hand:

No worries! My favorite acrylics for brush work are: Italeri, Revell, Testors and the new generation Humbrol.

Nice job. I have always loved the Southeast Asia camo scheme.
