Right Angle Gears 5/8" Shafts

Hi

Thought we would ask here since everyone is so knowlegable

They might be called mitre or bevel gears

Have a nice day

Bob

We would like mild steel or cast iron

Plus on the large or overkill side

About 3" outer diameter. 1/2-3/4" thick

Grainger Industrial (grainger.com) offers bevel gears in brass, stainless, plastic(?) with 15mm / 5/8" bore. Check online catalog, put gear into search box

Hi Ed

Thank you.

Guess we are thinking like it is like the nuts and bolts bins at a NAPA

We just look at them and grab the two we want.

This is not a now project.

We are just happy we figured out how to do it.

Have a good evening

Bob

What are you trying to make or repair?

Hi Lurch

Something like this:

https://kingmidgetcarclub.org/trainer/

Actually bigger.Same general type of car though.

So load on gears is chassis and an adult. Not two little kids like that one.

Then the engine stress would be a 2 or 3 horse lawnmower type engine.

It is going to a jackshaft though so it is not so much of a load.

Lot of reduction with jackshaft and axle sprocket.

NOTE Engine is up front and sideways.

Then driveshaft is dropped down low with two sprockets and a chain.

Bob

Ok Is there a reason why the engine is in the front? What is your ultimate goal here? I was fortunate to ran 5 go kart tracks for 19 years and worked on many of them and alsoother types of karts. I may be able to help you out…But not sure what you are trying to accomplish…

Hi Lurch

It is like a 3/4 scale car.

Built with kart components.

Bob

Will post Paint drawings.

Okay.Maybe this will clear things up.

Using 4 bolt rims.Which go up to 13" rims & tires.

We have the 4 bolt pattern front & rear hubs.Spindle hubs and ones to fit 1" axle in rear.

Will do our best to get Paint drawings done.

Bob

You may wantto consider moving the engine to the rear. It will be cooler for both the driver and the engine. There is a company that manufactures and sells commercial grade karts. It is called Formula K out of Michigan. They may be of some help also. What kind of clutch system are you using?

You may want to also consider using the engine size to 5 to 7 HP.

Hi Lurch

Sorry it took awhile to get back to you.

We will stick with front engine for this project.

Actually it is the whole point of it.

How to build a front engine lawn mower engine powered kart car?

We have solved it.

The pair of bevel gears is the solution.

Going into a jackshaft and axle structure.Which is sort of a ‘differential’.

Being you can change gear ratios.

So the ‘driveshaft’ from the engine to the jackshaft can be 1 to 1.

Have a nice day

Bob

These popups make for a hard post.

Yes they do.

For any post more than a sentence or so long, I’ve begun to type my post in Word and paste it into the reply. Saves a lot of frustration.

Bill

Model make , I get the idea now. I am very curious how this comes out.I do hope you post some pictures of your project.

So , have you made any progress on your project?
