I badly want to build a WWI aircraft. But the rigging thing really discourages me because I have never done something like that and I don’t truly understand it. Is there a web page where I can find out how to do it?
Yup!
Thy these:
Drilling holes and threading monofilament:

Using fuse wire (other types of wire could be used):

More on using monofilament:

Good luck!
Another easy way to rig is to use stretched sprue. Use silver sprue and you will not have to paint it. Measure legnth needed by using drafting dividers to get correct legnth, and glue in place with small drops of Elmer’s white glue. Works for me. Especially good for short pieces of rigging, for longer pieces it is hard to keep sprue from sagging.
Hope this helps.

Depends on the scale too sometimes. For larger scales 1/32 & 1/28 I’ve used K&B steel wire .010 & 0.15 Sizes with a nice effect. A compass with two pionts help measure the required legth for each flying wire. And apair of strong sharp wire cutters to cut and size. Dry fit and drop of Thick CA and accelerator to hold it in place. Comes in three foot lenghts at your local hobby store.
