Revival of the Firebirds GB

There are a couple of us trying to get the 2006 Firebirds firefighting aircraft GB running again. Thought I’d drop a post in here to catch anyone who might be interested but didn’t see the post in the GB section.

The current posts start around page 3.

They say a picture is worth a thousand words so here are 21,000 words to lure any fence sitters. [:)]

I have three 1/72 Revell CH-54 Skycrane’s in my stash to build . Each kit comes with some nice Erickson Air-Crane decals and I have alway’s thought about building one of the CH-54’s as a fire fighting helo . There’s a really nice pic of a Revell Skycrane in FSM February 2004 issue in the reader gallery section , It was built by a gentleman named Pete Brown who extensively converted the 1/72 kit into a helitanker . I’ve seen lot’s of pic’s of Mr Brown’s models in the reader gallery section , he does appear to be a Master Model Maker . I wonder where he got the dimensions for the ‘water tank’ that fits under the fuselage . I would need to be able to build something similar to have an authentic H-54 helitanker , although I dont think it would be in the same class as Mr Brown’s work .

John .

Erickson actually supports modelers, they have photos and drawings to help people make more accurate models of their helicopters.

I also have some walk around photos of Erickson and Siller Bros skycranes if you need more than what you find on Erickson’s site.

I have not seen that issue of FSM but have seen a couple of Skycranes built up. There are about 5 companies flying the Skycrane but Erickson is the largest operator and I believe the only one who flies them in other countries. They send a few down your way every year for your fire season.
