i saw the very intense post on the 109 but i got the 117 can anyone elaborate on this model

Hey! Didn,t REVELL have a lower number P.T. boat that was a HIGGINS boat? That,s what I thought the P.T.117 was. I guess I won,t be buying one then.I already have five ELCO boats. tankerbuilder
Yeah, they put out an odd scale PT-212, 211, 207 … but the kit depicts a late-war Higgins PT, not any of those three boats I mentioned. Plus, those three boats served in the Med and not in the Pacific, so the kill markings of Japanese flags are incorrect, and the guns with the kit are horrendous.
I would like to see a HIGGINS the same size as the LINDBERG mid-size offering.I did a whole bunch of corrections and mods on one of those years ago(don,t you dare ask how many years!) and I patterned it after a boat I had a picture of from an old neighbor when I was growing up!The boat was a much used,abused and darned near wore out boat and the name they had on the side of the forward house was “TULAGI TERROR” she had a brit 6 pounder mounted on the aft deck and a U.S.ARMY portable gun bolted to the foredeck.The thing even had two "K’guns for depth charges!!She was part grey and part green and a few other non- descript colors. I took the I.P.M.S. local contest in small ships with it (MODIFIED) And I had it in my office for many years when an employee,s son saw it and kept staring at it .I gave it to him.Last I heard,I don,t know if he,s still got it,but he did COMMAND a 95 foot COAST GUARD CUTTER for a while!! I believe a good HIGGINS would sell well too! I think a good HUCKINS and STEPHENS built P.T.s would be nice as well !! tankerbuilder

Do you remeber the hull number of the Tulagi Terror? Do you have pictures of her? WHere where the K-guns located? WOuld be intersted in learning more about her armament, hull number, and anything else you might be able to provide.

If I remember correctly they were just aft (about the middle window) next to the aft deckhouse .It was tight ,but they had the charges, 2 spare on each side on the roof!!

BTW, the real PT 117, a Squadron 6 boat, was destroyed during the Japanese air raid on Rendova, Solomon Islands, on August 1, 1943. PT 164 of Squadron 10 was also destroyed in this raid, with two of her crew killed.
Rendova was PT 109’s base, and the air raid occurred the afternoon of the day the 109 headed out on her last patrol.
