Revells new B-17 WIP Finished

Sorry Hans, I’m steppin out of the blacksmith shed and indoors with the jewelers on this one![whstl]

For those who do not yet have this kit in hand, I’ll say, it looks daunting. The instruction sheet is enough to give anyone a headache!!! Parts #s match up with the steps, but they are strewn about, all over the place on the sprues. I layed out all the sprues on my display cabinet, just not enough room on the bench to go searching all over for the parts I need.

There is loads of detail and tons of parts. The detail is very reminiscent of some of their classic kits but with more of it, with a few sink here and there. Nothing like the other new Revell offerings. The recessed panel lines would be huge, even in 1/32 scale.

I’ve gotten started on some of the fiddly bits. I had a set of True Details wheel on hand, so I started with them. The buldge is a bit much. The one on the right has been sanded a bit.

Then the landing gear. I added an additional 6 pieces of wire to the mains, and carved out the solid molded braces for the tail gear.

On to the engines. The kit offers 6 pieces to make each engine. I added 20 extra pieces each for the wiring.

That’s all for now.

Anybody else who’s gonna be jumpin in on this kit is welcome to join me here!

Nice… thanks for sharing

Ya, right… Whatever…

I had to keep thinking this is 1/72 scale. Great job!

Looks good so far.

I’m gonna keep an eye on this one. I plan on getting this kit sometime soon and want to see how it builds up.

Oh hell yeah…that detail is great—even if it is quarter-scale!!![Y]

Yup gotta keep an eye on this one Looks good so far Fermis [Y][Y]

Looks great so far!

Thanks all! [t$t]

Just a few more notes on this thing.

For the clear parts, you get 3 options for the radio room/roof gun position, Cheyenne turret or regular, 2 nosecones, two styles of canopy, celestial dome or small flat window, and 3 options for the waiste gun windows, but NO option for the waiste gun positions, they are NOT staggerd on this one.

…chuckle…[:)]

Looks like you’re off to a great start. Keep us posted.

Regards, Rick

Looking great so far. I love the detail and the look of the MLG. Is this one going to take you more than a night to finish?[;)]

HAHA, Yeah, this one’s gonna take a couple days!!![:P]

Thanks for posting this Femis, I’ll be watching for sure.

Seems funny to me that they didn’t provide an option for the staggered waist gun positions though. Most of the decals I have are for the late G model with them. Suppose I could just cover and putty over one and cut the replacement out to replicate the late model.

Really looks good so far! Love the detail you put into the engines.[Y]

Wow…great work…

I’m surprised as well. I’ve been comparing this one with the Academy “F” that I have, Academy gives you the option. The right fuse half is solid at the waist, with the option to cut out one or the other. Oh well, we make due with what they give us! This kit really is a bit of a let down, compared to releases like the 111, 110, 410 and so on, but it does have that vintage smell!
