While looking for kits I noticed that Revell has an awful lot of ‘Out of Production’ kits. What’s up with that? Does anybody know if they’re re-tooling or just stopping production. I don’t do a lot of detailing and find that their kits are easiest to bulid and are sturdy. Kits are avaiable at almost all discount stores are fun to build without going into too much detail.[?]
Revell and Monogram cycle their molds every few years. They make a short run then move on to the next mold. The EA-6B for example is just hitting the stores and is already “Out of Production” The run is done, all produced kits have been boxed and they have already moved on.
So, what do I do now? I’ve got a list of 15 kits I want and 11 of them are Revell. Are they going to reissue/update, etc.? Like I said, I don’t do a lot of detailing and most other kits are built for this and aftermarket thingys. I build like they were mine; beat up and used like the real ones.
Well, have you checked their sites for re-release info? Check e-bay or look around local model clubs. Just because they are OOP doesn’t mean the hobby shop are all sold out either. Look for the old Mom and Pop shop and check their shelves. Also can ask on the different forums to see if anyone has one they want to sell. There are only a few Rellogram kits that carry really high collectors prices right now like say a UH-34D is high dollar while the Monogram 262 can usually be had for around 10 bucks.
Hey Didfal;
I hate to advise you to go to this place but check out Evilbay, I’ve been slumming around there alot there lately and I’ve been hitting on the old Otaki & Arii kits, but they do have alot of the older Revell/Monogram(Revellogram) kits on auction I’ve just won the JU-88A-4 for $15.00 and no one challenged my bid too,
And as for the Out Of Production kits I’d wouldn’t worry about it they cycle them through about once every 5 years so if you don’t get it when they’re out then just wait a couple and they’ll be back or wait until another Model Company releases the kit on the hit list
Revell Germany have been re releasing a lot of older Monogram/Revell/Matchbox
kits recently including the 48th JU88.

Thanks again for the info. I’ve run across some kits at Walgreen’s and Michael’s. Micheal’s normally has a 40% off coupon every week and have a fair selection of models,paints, glues, etc. Plus they sell masking paper and a whole bunch of stuff for diorams.
Hey I just tried that Revell link you listed oggy!!! It’s in German, is there an English page I can try seeing as I don’t read German?
Hey roadkill, Click on the word “english” in the upper right hand corner.[;)]
Walgreens? I didn’t know they carried models. Do you mean Wal-Mart?
Dana
I’m pretty sure he meant Walgreen’s. Most of the chain drug stores have a toy
section and they almost always have some models. True, the selection might
be small but, you’ll sometimes find out of production kits for really low prices.
Check 'em out…You never know what you’ll find.

you can try the most unusual places too…i found a trove of tresure in a village toy shop. Matchbox, Airfix, and Heller.
