Here is my second build since returning to the hobby, the “level 4” Revell 1981 Camaro Z28. “Level 4” is an over statement in my opinion, due to the lack of parts and fitment, basically a snap together kit. However, the decal set is premium. I did my best to do a realistic build for this and spent well over a month working on it in my limited spare time. The only issues I feel that hindered this project was my painting skills and the bare metal foil work, otherwise I was happy with the scratch-built details I added in the interior.
Spark plug wires: painted .2mm jewelry wire
Distributor: I tried to drill out the distributor supplied in the kit but ended up making my own with sprue, did not show that detail.
Air Cleaner: scratched built one, I lost the supplied one… but this one is more accurate. Made with UV resin using a bottle cap for the mold then sanded down to make it to scale.
Rearview mirror: Kit didn’t have one, scratch-built with styrene sheet and bare metal foil for the mirror. Used a trick that I haven’t seen before to help steady the mirror placement and hold in place till it dried (mod podge), I used the tape to find the location I wanted for the mirror, pulled the mirror back just enough to apply glue to the back of the mirror mount then put it in place. Easy!
Tint: used Creatx Wicked Black and ULVS Gloss to mix the tint and sprayed.
Scratch-built: Speakers, Keys, gear shift and boot, seatbelt and buckles, armrest on the doors, pedals, carpet (blue shop towels painted blue), ignition in the steering column as well as the turn signal and tilt lever.
The seatbelt housing(?) is attached to the upper pillar which was made with the head of a zip tie and some styrene. Also created the seatbelt guide on the side of the seat. Used 2mm ribbon for the seatbelt painted black.
Custom printed the Georgia Mullet license plate in honor of the 80’s.
