Revell's 1/48 EA-6A Intruder - Finished

Hey guys,

Here’s my Intruder. Except for the raised panel lines, it’s a pretty good kit. Detail is decent, only one fit problem (main belly section, into fuselage), decals are crisp and went down with no problem.

After painting, something about this bird just screamed “dirty”, so I went ahead and weathered the bejeezus out of it. Weathering is solely Pro-Modeller wash.

Anyway, on to the pics

As always, questions and constructive criticisms are welcome.

Enjoy,

Fred

Weathering is a bit heavy for my personal taste but you did a great job on it! [Y]

I love a dirty bird!!! Most excellent!

Thanks guys [H]

Buckeye, I thought the weathering was a little heavy too, at first, but then it just kinda grew on me and now I think it just looks kinda bad-@$$, LOL

Here’s an in-production picture - painted, but not weathered. It looks, but boring,

-Fred

Nicely done. The weathering looks on spot. The Intruder is a pretty dirty bird anyways.

(I would recomend putting a flat coat.)[:)]

I second this! Right on! She’s a good lookin’ dirty bird. I have the old Testor’s 1/48 Intruder waiting to be finished…hopefully I can get a comparable finish!

I concur…nice job. I like the weathering…

Thanks guys [H]

I know a flat coat would really tie it all together, but I’m very hesitant. Every time I add a flat coat, I ruin the build. I think I’m just going to live with a satin finish on this one - unless someone can receommend an absolutely fail-proof, flat coat.

-Fred

Looks good, but I too would use a flat coat.

I put Testors Flat lacquer in my airbrush and spray it on. Hasn’t failed me yet, just don’t spray clear parts with it.

I’ve had real good luck with Vallejo’s flat finish…

Really nice work, Fred!! [t$t] But somebody better get after that Marine crew chief! [whstl]

Ken

That Intruder is gorgeous. To my eyes the weathering is spot-on. Excellent work!

Holy crap Fred, that is fantastic! I love the weathering too, and wouldn’t change anything.

Constructive criticism? Only thing I can say “keep doing it like you’re doing it”.

Howdy Fred,

As an old girlfriend used to say… That’s "Btchin… I love the over all appearance right down to the weathering…

That weathering aint nothing, when my dad was aboard carriers, after awhile the a/c would weather really quick from the maintenance, weather especially salt walter…

So you totally did her justice… A fail proof flat… De-canned Tamiya Flat. It is already premixed, sprays like a gem and dries flatter than flat yet with a bit of a sheen.

To me, Tamiyas flat works like Future floor wax… It finds it’s own level b/c I used it on my P-47 build and by mistake, flooded an area…

Within a few minutes and was dry and you could not tell…

Again thank you for sharing your ditry EA-6… She’s a winner!!

Flaps up,

Mike

Aww shucks…thanks, guys [H]

Maybe next time I place an order online, I’ll get a can of this Tamiya flat or vallejo. I haven’t found a flat coat that I really like.
