Revellogram re-release of their 1/32 F4U Corsair

Hi guys!

For the life of me I can’t remember where I saw this but did anyone else happen to see the news that Revell is supposed to be re-releasing their 1/32 scale F4U Corsair? I don’t know if I’m recalling this correctly or not. If I am, I’d really love to get my hands on one! Did anyone see when the kit is supposed to be released and/or what price it’ll be?

Haven’t seen that, but I’m sure several hundred will be on eBay as vintage and rare before the first week is out.

That is good news as I am trying to recreate my collection of Revell 1/32 fighters that I had in the 70’s. I have the Hurricane, Spitfire I, Seafire I, Me-109G, and the P-40E which is the '79 “1941” John Belushi version which I got off E-bay a few years back. I wish they would release the “Aleutian Tiger” version again, besides the P-47 bubbletop and P-51B.

I wish I had picked up the one I saw in the LHS last summer. Twenty bucks with some aftermarket tucked in it. I did get the Tamiya kit for Christmas…sweet tea and cookies it’s a nice kit!

I want to say that it is Revell Germany that will be reissuing this kit sometime in the coming year.

Stik, you are probably right as they have already released the Hurricane Mk I, the Spitfire Mk I, the Seafire Mk 1, and the Me-109F which is actually a G-6 with the cannon bulges when it was originally released by Revell.

There’s a couple of the old Revell F4U kits for sale on Ebay now. Priced from ~$20 and up. Most expensive seem to be the Black Sheep kits; funny because I picked up one of those about 2 years ago for less than $10. My guess is that a re-release will be priced at market level for current 1/32 kits, so snatching up a vintage kit now might be a good deal.

[dto:] I’m very pretty certain that will be coming down the pike along with the big Stuka. I just got the new Revell Germany 109G6 in 1/32 and is truly another home run for them. It doesn’t have an engine but the cockpit, wheel wells and exterior details are just amazing at under $30! The decals are also fantastic!

Don, I’ve got to ask, how on EARTH did you score a 1/32 Revell Corsair for under ten bucks?!?!?

I guess being in the right place at the right time. It was an Ebay deal from someone who I think purchased a number of old kits at a garage or estate sale and was reselling them. I picked up the Corsair, the Revell F4F Wildcat and the 1/28 Spad for a total of around $25. The Corsair lacked the instruction sheet which may have accounted in part for the low asking price.

The last time I had the Revell 1/32 Corsair was around 1978 or '79 when I was around 8 years old and my dad made it for me. But then my brother sat on it and there went the landing gear, props, wings, etc.

I’ve been reading on line lately how the landing gear is not good but I have not seen any pictures of it all built up OOB. In all the build-ups I’ve seen, everyone’s replaced pretty much everything on the kit with aftermarket resin. Since I’m no Rockefeller, I didn’t have any plans on replacing the kit parts (landing gear, cockpit, etc). I was just going to do it strictly out of the box as I do with 99.9% of my kits.

I’ve read where people said that the landing gear was “bad” but no one has every expanded on that. Has anyone built this kit lately and, if so, what are your thoughts on it?

I built this back in the 70’s and as I recall, the cockpit was pretty basic along with raised panel lines on the body. I think the wells were pretty much open and bare of any detail but it opens itself up for as much scratch building as you can do not to mention the resin extras.
