Revellgram F/A-18C Bug VFA-113 Stingers Finished At Last! Lots of Pics.

Here is the Bug! Finally finished my second Revellgram 1/48 F/A-18C and she is a Beauty! Over two months of metaticulous and tediaous work went into this Bug. A few firsts for me also, first time scribing, first time weathering, first time adding custom decals I made and making my own metal PE parts. This is the second bug in my growing collection and I feel it’s the best model yet I have built. My modeling skills definatly improved during this build and I learned alot of great things doing it. A mighty fine Stinger she came out as too.

Some pictures lack detail but others are ok. I’ll take more detailed pictures later and post as soon as I can. Thanks to everyone who inspired me to try things I’ve never done before, especially Eddie Miller. Now On the the show!

All Comments and critiques welcomed!

Suberb job, Air. Anyway i can get a close-up of the tail decal? Still can’t beleive you hand scribed all that. Are your eyes still crossed?

jim

How many scribing tools did you wear out ? Looks good Airmaster, well done.

Regards, Rick

Here you go with the close up. No I didnt go cross eyed but but came very close to it. [(-D]

Air Master

Thanks Rick! Thankfully all my scribing tools are still intact.[:D] I took my sweet time scribing that Bug. I worked slowly on it for two weeks, working just a little at time.

Air Master

Thanks bro. Those are the homemade decals? Now i really have to replace my printer and get some decal sheets

Yup! All the black decals cept’ for the intake warning triangles I made with editing on Paint Shop Pro and the Surething Decal Maker Standard Edition. Testors Custom Decal kit only came with the Basic Edition. I needed the Standard version to make my own because the Basic version won’t let you use your own designs.

[:O]

you made MY eyes go cross-eyed

excellent superb outstanding stupendous job!!!

Thanks Jin.

I think the most trouble I had with this build was applying the decals. I used 3 different sheets, the OOB sheet, Maw Decals left over from my last Bug and my custom made sheet. The OOB decals were the worst. I had to spray them with decal bonder so they would not disintigrate in water, that’s how bad Revell decals are.

Looks good from here AM! A little dark on the panel lines(just my opinion), but otherwise a fantastic job!

That is one beautiful piece of art! IMHO, you’ve given that Hornet the “at sea for 6 months look” Great job. Thanks for the kind word, Air Master, but you did all the work! Looking forward to your next project.[:D]

Eddie

Nice looking build. A little heavy on the panel lines, in my opinion, but otherwise very good looking.

Thanks Geoff and Berny, I wanted to give this bug a well worn look. This was first time for weathering and scribing but I still have a lot to learn about weathering. Not to bad for a first timer though. [:D]

Air Master

Thanks Eddie!

Not sure weather to get back into the F-14 or start the F-106. Its a toss up. I’ll decide in a few days which one to start next.

Now for everyone else more pictures and these look alot better.[:D]

Yes, indeed. Be careful with the scribing though, 'cause even though it’s a lot of work, it’s addicting! Next thing you know, you’ll be looking at all those old Monograms in your stash and thinking: “Hey, that old kit would be pretty nice with a little scibing…”

Geoff, I think the only other bird that’s going to get a good scribing will be the Revellgram F-4J due to the fact I’ll be adding a Legend resin cockpit set that is already pre-scribed, but that is still a long way off from starting. I know what you mean it can be addicting cause I was considering doing a scribe to my F-106 but decided against it. LOL.

Now, I MUST get the Revell 1/48 Super Bug E and see how well I can build that. That would complete my “bug” collection![:D]

Air Master

Air… fine looking job you did on that model.

[tup]Thats a fine build, very impressive indeeed.

Thanks Wing and Tango!

Now I have to decide which kit to start next. Maybe, I should post and have the members pick one from my list below, LOL [:D]

Edit: Except for the Tamiya F-15E, that bad boy MUST wait til I have moved to Kentucky.
