While the model might not be “150% accurate” it is a reasonably accurate model, especially considering when it was first manufactured. True, the Revell 1/72 and 1/144 scale kits are more so, but they were created much more recently using much more modern technology. The “U-505” kit, although not U-505, is a well-shaped and proportioned kit that can easily be upgraded using aftermarket products or simple scratch-building will raise it to “the next level”.
Did Revell ever do a Type IX in 1/144? I’ve been looking to build one to tow behind my 1/144 USS Guadalcanal (CVE-60). The closest I’ve found to date is the old Nichimo motorized toy/model, which claims to be 1/150. I could use it, but I’d prefer something a little less toy like. I figure most folks will only see the bits above the waterline, but I’d still like to get rid of the overscale parts…
My wife upgraded my “Pixelmator” program for Mac to “Pro” for Christmas. I was playing around with it and was really awestruck at what can be don with this. Here is a layered graphic of my U-Boat diorama against a painting by Kenneth King. Pretty dang cool !!
