Revell Trabant 601 Saloon to Pick-Up

There is always great fear from my point of view in cutting any kit!

Hey!

A Trabby! I didn’t think they made that wee thing in kit form. Now where did I put the real one? Oh! That’s right,I used the plastic in the body for an R.C. Model Boat(Large)

Cheers Tanker-Builder!

Nice work Pat! Some tries at doing that don’t turn out too good but that made a really sharp looking mini truck. [t$t]

Stay safe.

I like it !

Thanks guys much appreciated.

I like that. Looks realy great. I always said you are only limited to your imagination. Thats a great idea you had.

Thanks lurch, but I can’t any credit for imagination. Two guys on another site have also done this conversion!

Oh I see. But you made it your style. I bet yours does not look like theirs. So thats your interpretation of another idea. I still think you did a great job on it. I like it.

Sweet! Needs a cloud of black smoke!

Thanks to you both. Bill…I remember now what I forget to make…SMOKE!

I spent a month in the DDR in 1979 working on my Architects Degree thesis.

The whole experience was pretty shocking- some good and a lot crummy.

You go to breakfast in a nice 19th century hotel, waiters in tuxes etc. Super low prices.

Then they sit two other pefect strangers at your table who chow down and don’t speak to you.

And Trabants. Only cars besides Ladas. I’d never heard of the damn things and hope I never see another one.

Bill

Hi,

Your build looks great. I have the same base kit, but haven’t started it yet. It looks like it can be a fun base for kit bashing.

Pat

PS.

Now if some company would make a kit of the FSO Syrena or the Wartburg 311, 312 or 313 I’d be really happy [:P]

Nice surgery Pat. Turned out pretty neat.

Thanks guys for your input. Yes it was a scary thing cutting up a perfectly good kit! But again satisfying in the end.

Nice looking build, I love it. I’ve done a couple of major conversions and chopped a few tops and it still scares the heck out of me every time I take up the saw.

Thanks Steev. Yes it scares the daylights out of me too. Years and years ago I bought a Heller Renault Gordini kit, rear engined. I also bought a GT40 kit and tranferred most of it to the Renault! That must have been at least 25-30 years ago! It went in a clear out when we moved house sometime ago.
