Hello BOBBAILY, this is only old Zvezda kit in new box from Revell, nothing special…[:(!]
Thanks Petr V. That’s what I was afraid of. You just saved me some money…
They should have to put that on the box. “Previously released at Zvezda’s No. 7136, copyright 1994” or something. When they upgrade they can could add, “… retooled 2007. Now includes Rubio aluminum barrel, ModelKasten tracks and Archer transfer markings.”
A boy can dream, can’t he? [swg]
Or you could look for the much better Dragon T-34/76 kits.
Yeah I got one of the Dragon kits and was very pleased.

I agree Rob-I have the Dragon T-34/76 1941 Model in the stash. Great kit. However, I need a Model 1943 turret and hate to spend the price of another kit to get an aftermarket turret. Actually, it would be cheaper to buy the Tamiya kit @ HobbyLobby with the right coupon just to get the turret…hmmmm
But at the end of the day, the Tamiya Model 1943 kit isn’t all that bad-nice cast feature on the turret, good accessories (fuel tanks-both types), a couple of figures. Just requires a little additional work to compensate for the fact that it was designed to be motorized.
I am in the same position as you Bob.
I have this kit on order, but only because the box art is great and the kit has the right turret for my purposes.
How bad is the Zvezda?
I mean, is it all in vain?
And if so can anyone recomend a kit where I can get the right turret?
Labor-the Tamiya 1943 Model kit isn’t really a bad kit-just some work to fill in the holes that were provided to motorize the kit. I’ve not dealt with the Zvezda Model 1943 kit but I do have the Model 1942 (I think) and the quality is less than that of the Tamiya. You can view the Tamiya build over in the Kursk GB-I have a couple of recent posts with pictures. If you want a Model 1943 kit, I would just go with the Tamiya kit. Everything fits and there are plenty of add on accessories, i.e., fuel tanks, crates, tarps, trees…and the price is appox $10.- cheaper. Just my two cents worth.
Thx Bob, over to Kursk ![]()
…and click on this link, then click on the box for Assembly Guide and you can go thru the instructions and see what you would be getting.
I bought a Dragon T34 / 1941 last weekend with my 40% Hobby Lobby cupon, and was I impressed with the kit! Very, very well executed. All this brings into further problems with this beautifull kit. What color was the base coat of paint? And what color is the interior? If this typical Dragon quality, I’ll be buying many more.
gary
I’ve got the Tamiya 1943 kit on my bench right now, and personaly I’m dissapointed I didn’t buy the dragon kit, but the turret isn’t bad. I decided to convert mine to an ARV so the turret is just sitting in my spare parts drawr, but all the body filling reqired to get rid of the holes from the motor are making it more work than it should be
Having both kits, I agree with you both-the Dragon is a better engineered/detailed kit. But it is also a much newer kit and a bit more expensive. And with the indy links (not Magic Tracks) a bit more time consuming. For a quick, less expensive build of a T-34 that looks like a T-34, the Tamiya isn’t a bad option-just takes a few extra minutes to ‘fill in the holes’. And for the Model 1943 style turret, it’s a good choice-at least $$$$ wise.
My hope was that the Revell kit would be new and of Dragon quality, but it doesn’t appear that way.
If you’re dead set on getting the Revell kit, then look for the cheaper original Zvezda boxing: http://www.greatmodels.com/~smartcart/cgi/display.cgi?item_num=ZVE3525
Or the even cheaper Italeri boxing: http://cgi.ebay.com/Italeri-T-34-76-M-1943-Medium-Tank-1-35-282_W0QQitemZ220139640976
Same kits, different boxings. Revell of Germany tends to sell other companies’ kits at twice the price. Decals are different though.
While the Tamiya T-34 series was pretty good for its time, it does not stand up to the same level of accuracy that even the Zvezda T-34 has.
Thanks for that info Rob. I’m committed to finishing the Tamiya kit now, but I can foresee the future need for more Model 1943 kits. I’ll check out the links.
The Revell/Zvezda is on order and the Tamiya seems to come with the option to build both the later style command cupola + the option of mixing rubber rimm and steel wheels.
So I am going to get both.
Just to get set for the upcoming release of DML’s kit.
Not that I know that they will do one bit it is sort of bound to happen ![]()
