Revell SH-2 Seasprite.........UPDATE

ok everyone, im thinking about getting this kit now, im very partial to it.

whats the jist? is it a good one? is it detailed? fit especially?

im going to get it with the cobra company resin ex/interior.

whats everyones opinion?

Hey Kyle!!
I haven’t forgot about you, Bud.
I had some problems with my e-mail and then we moved and I’m just starting to get things back to a state of semi-normalcy.
As far as the kit goes. With the Cobra goodies it should be a pretty nice build. I haven’t ordered my Cobra stuff yet. But that is a future project.
Take care.

I hunted down my unbuilt Revell/Monogram SH-2 (Dated 1996) from my basement. So here is my quick in box review. I believe it is the old Matchbox kit.

It is molded in light gray plastic with mostly raised panel lines with three crew figures with 5 seperate arms one are molded to one figure, the other two figures are identical. The figures do not look very good (small torso’s and heads?, poor scaling, etc.) and shouldn’t be used. There doesn’t apear to be much flash on the plastic but the sprues apear pretty thick where parts attach to it. The detail inside is basically what you would expect in 1/72nd scale, in fact it looks very much like the AIrfix Seasprite I built a while ago. The color suggestions are a bit out there such as dark ghost gray overall when it should be dark Navy (engine) gray overall for the high vis decals included in the kit. The instrument panels are represented with decals.

The decal sheet is about 5" x 8" and include markings for two varients. The decals appear thick (typical of monogram kits) and my instructions indicate they are not compatible with setting solution??. The decals include the instrument panels, black walkways, and black anti glare panel with white number, most of the data, national insignia etc. Interesting there is decals for the tail rotor end stripes, the tail horizontal stabilizer red/yellow stipes, and the red yellow markings on the MAD sensor.

Overall it probably isn’t too bad of a kit, especially if you are going to use aftermarket parts for the interior. I haven’t build it so I don’t know how it will fit together. I have seen some fine looking kits build out of worse kits and if you want a SH-2 you don’t have many choices out there. I find it interesting that Egypt, Australia, and new Zealand have recently acquired this helicopter since it first flew in 1959, 45 years ago. Must be a good design to span that many years.

Good Luck

thanks for the rundown derekms, is the panal moulded with the decal option? or decal only?

its a great helo, the navy still uses it. one of my favorite of all time. big and beautifull

randie, im around man, write me.

Just got my kit from ebay with the cobra company in/exterior parts, all at a great deal of $29 (i think at least).

anywho on first look, the plastic seems to be well made, not to light, not to thick. (to me at least), just right actually. very little flash

the resin parts are outstanding in detail (considering this is my first aftermarket set)

anyone have questions, post and ill answer.

people need to start building this impressive helo!
