Revell of Germany's 1/72 scale U-boat.....YES!!!

Can you believe it or what! 1/72 scale early type U-boot!
115 parts, skill level 3. 35 or so inches long! due this Nov!
kit number #5015 see thier site if you think I have been building with the window closed…again[:p]

Have you seen the U-Boat kit by Amati? I doubt the Revell kit will be as good, but I’m sure it will be less expensive.

Now if we can just get a 1/72 scale Gato Fleet Boat.

Scale Shipyard makes a nice 1/72 fiberglass hull for a Gato class. You can check out the line at

Thanks seaphoto. I’ve seen that and some completed models. The look nice. To be honest after spending 4 years on a 1/48 PT Boat, I’m looking for a project that doesn’t require so much scratch building. Something like the Amati U-Boat except a gato boat. I need a break. [:)]

Was that the fiberglass hull one that was selling about 6 years ago?

Price check?

Big Jake,
Is which the fiberglass one? The Revell U-Boat, The Amati U-Boat, or the Gato Fleet Boat? I know the Gato boat is a fiberglass hull. I think the Revell kit is all new. The Amati kit is multi-media.

Ok…so this wasn’t “NEW” news OR what?
I kinda thought a 1/72 scale styrene U-BOAT was a big deal?

I think it is a pretty big deal actually. Probably the first large scale WWII sub to hit the market at an affordable price. But hey, what about the 1/32 scale U-Boat from Andrea Miniatures available from your friends at Squadron for a measly $1799.96. What would I do with a U-Boat that is over 6 feet long? Open a museum? [:)] I wonder how many of these they are going to sell?

I can see it now… “honey, we’re going to hold off on that new car we need because I’m going to spend the down payment on a U-boat”. LOL

It may be worth the almost 2 grand price tag if you could get in and drive it. C’mon it’s six feet long, suck in a little and go for a ride. No, I insist, you first!

Whaaat? What type?VII,X;XXI?How long?Did some one say 6feet?I can afford it but where to display it?I live in a a very small flat in Germany.Display space is at a premium.Could hang it from the bathroom cieling. With the proper paint job in the room,I could achieve a really good "das boot " effect, but my wife would want to hang me!

c.m.s., this is a type VIIC U-Boat. Although I think it belongs in a museum! It looks like a beautiful piece of work. It is made by Andrea models. You can find it on sale from Squadron mail order. Here’s a link.

I would like to see a review on this, but so far none that I’m aware of. Good luck.

The Revell kit will probably be better in quality than the Amati kit. I recently converted the Amati kit into a late war Type VIIC. It was a bear to build, taking more than 400 hours, most of that was involved with blending the metal hull sides into the resin lower hull with wooden bulkheads underneath…the PE deck is in seven parts, and it’s heavy brass…

Goto www.modelwarships.com and click on Feature Articles, it’s all there for you to review…I’ll never build another Amati U-boat again, and I’m partial to U-boats.

I saw this kit (the Andrea)built at the sqadron shop open house last year. All I can say is if I had the capital to spend 2k on a model kit, this would be a definite. That is one beautiful kit.
