Hi there all,
I started this one in late '05 if I remember correctly. Well I finally got back around to it, wanted to clean up all the unfinished kits. Went with the basic scheme that was in the instructions but then decieded to have a bit of fun with it. During the last 3 yrs I somehow managed to loose the left side of the canopy as well as a couple of parts for the cockpit. Would love to have some feedback on this one.

Very nice work, Matt. Brilliant idea for using the tarp to cover up the missing canopy piece.
I recently picked up the Italeri boxing of this kit… and can’t wait to build it up into the “Black Shark” markings.

I think it looks really nice. The tarp gives it the appearance that the inside is still classified and the public doesn’t get to look inside. My only recommendation would be to glue a couple of straps to the tarp and run them under the aircraft to the other side of the tarp so wind cannot blow it off.

I was cleaning out some of my spare’s boxes and draw’s just the other day , some of my older scrapped Helo’s have missing clear parts and I would love to try the Tarp method you used Matt . Hopfully just before Christmas I’ll have a couple of Helicopter Dio’s to post as well .
I also really like the camouflage finish and wash on your Russian Bird , VERY NICE indeed[tup]

The “tarp” is the only way that I could think of to cover up the gaping hole where the “door” should be. Really a very simple process, I cut a piece of kleenex to the approx size, wet it down to form it to the shape that i needed and then once it was mostly dry painted it OD Green. Once that dryed I drybrushed it with some dark earth color and used white glue to secure it. I think that I also took a q-tip and rolled it along the flat areas to ensure that it was laying flat where it should be. The method that I used differed slightly from what I have read before of adding the white glue to the water when you are first forming the tarp.
As was stated earlier I will be adding some straps to make it look secured to the bird. Think that I am going to use some masking tape cut very thin and then painted the same color.
The camo is all Tamiya acrylic colors. Base coat is the tan (been so long that I cannot remember the exact color) then on to the green with the final and most trying part the dark earth outlines. Sealed it all with future and then used artists oil paints to weather it up. In my experience Helicopters (at least military ones) arent that clean all the time, so I had some fun weathering this one. After decals were done I went back and drybrushed some wear marks here and there. All airbrushing was done with my Badger 250 and freehand.
