Revell/ Monogram F-15C

Hey folks.

If You have banged together the above mentioned kit, then I have a question for you…

What are the major pit falls of the kit …I can find only one review of it . I know shes an older mold but it will be my first Eagle…

Thanx to all in advance

Ernest.

Ernest,
That was a while ago - and I built it with my son who bought it for us to build together - so I wasn’t really looking at the kit with a critical eye.

Looking at the finished product - I can’t remember any major fit problems at all. In fact - That’s a pretty nice bird if I do say so myself.
Chris

No major fit problems and it’s one of the better F-15C kits on the market. Yes, it has raised pane lines but the outline is correct and the speed brake sits on top of the fuselage like it’s supposed to (not in a well as depicted on other kits.)

I’ve built it twice the first time in the 80’s and the second time in 96 and I still have the second attempt. The first time I built it the kit also contained decals for the remove before flight tags and what bugs me is that the other kit I built didn’t contain the decals.

That was the first (and come to think about it, only) kit I’ve finished since my move a couple of years ago… I was happy with it. A couple of hints:

If I remember correctly, it’s actually an A model (you can tell by looking at the shape of the fairing behind the aforementioned speed brake).

The arms that contol the exhausts are molded in. It was pretty easy to grind/carve them away, and replace the arms with some strip styrene, and really added to the look of the model.

If you’re going to paint the interior of the intake ducts, do it fairly early… I tried to paint it at the end, and wasn’t pretty.

The fuselage comes in an upper and lower half… my upper half was a bit warped, but nothing a little bit of “nudging” couldn’t handle.

Thanx to all of you for the tips …the kit arrived today…IT will be great ill post pics

I’m new to this website so please bare with me. On top of that I’ve also never built a model. Regardless of the fact there is a first time for everything. My question is where can I get this model? You guys talk about it like its not to hard to build. I like it because it is the plane I work on so why not have a model of it right.

what squadron you with in the Air Force guillo

To be honest, that kit gave me nightmares.
The fuselage and the cockpit containor part thingy had to be put together by distorting each part and yes, the panel lines were raised.
the decals that were in my kit didn’t fit to my research at ALL.
It best fits the F-15A and not the C version. the main landing gear well had No detail and it is a little bit hard to make a seamless fuel tank.
mine came with a canopy and the flash extended all the way to the sprues
the decals are a bit flimsy.
but you will find that there are quite a bit of good thing here and there.
overall, It looks fine when looked at from 5feet or so.

and guillo, you can pick these up at Wal-Mart or Drug Mart or any hobby shop
I got mine at WM for 11bucks.
wasn;t a waist of money.
(from 5 feet… just kidding)

oh yeah, and the out takes(is that what they call em?)or the exaust thingy mabobber is vaguely instructed in the instruction.
use the one with the little spokes in em. I messed up and put in the ones you normally see on fighter exaust.

the term is intake not out take we arent talking about a Jackie Chan movie now are we. LOL

mikeym_us I work in EMS now. I’m came in as a crewchief. I still do that, but now I also rig flight controls, and change major surfaces. I.E. horizontal stabilators, change canopies and then rig them. A lot to list. I want a nice kit. The way jinithith2 makes it sound, it’s not a well made kit.

My experience (and bear in mind it was some time ago when I built it) was that my Monogram 1/48 scale F-15 was a joy to build. No major problems and everything went together pretty smoothly. I had to do the usual seam fill and sand, but I have yet to do a model that didn’t need a little (or a lot of) seam work. The cockpit is detaled enough and even the pilot figure looks pretty good. I’m looking at it right now in my “old model” box and while one of the vertical stabs is broken off, it still looks good to me. As a matter of fact, now that I look at it…I might just have to rebuild this thing.

salbando made up my mind. I’m gonna get one. It will be the first model I’ve ever built that I try to make look real so will see.
