Revell HMMWV

Here are a couple of pictures of my 1/72 scale Revell M998 HMMWV. Neat little kit that also includes an M1025 scout HMMWV.

Nicely done. I love the small kits. It almost looks 1/35 in the picture.

Nice work Rob especially given the size of this one in 1/72. [tup]

Nice job on the little truck. I have the kit sitting in my pile to be built but just have not gotten around to starting it.

That’s a nice little build there Rob, and your pictures are really good for such a small scale [tup]

It really looks 1/35 in the 1st pic. [:)]

It turned out great. The top and doors really set it off.

It really is 1/72 scale. Here’s an in progress photo of it on a small spool of thread.

Wow, thats little! Very nicely done Rob [tup]

Looks great Rob. I’m not a 1/72 armor builder, but Dragon’s little HMMWVs are really nice. I did a build reveiw of their 1/72 M1046 for Armorama.

Here is how it compares in size to its 1/35 big brother.

Very nice done, Rob. I like also to build one from Revell, since its hood is already separated. But when I look for an after-market engine, there was none. Maybe I had to scratchbuild one, I am looking for some idea on how to make an engine. Also, how do you find it’s accuracy? (revell vs. dragon) The dragon kit though has no separate hood.

Thanks

Nicky

I don’t know about an engine for the kit, on the actual vehicle, not much of the engine is visable when you open the hood, just the radiator.

Gino gave me one of the Dragon kits to build after he did his build up review. I found it had much more detail than the Revell kit and nicer looking wheels (that were a pain to assemble). For ease of construction, Revell’s kit is easier. Revell also molded the .50 cal for the hardtop version upside down.

Overall, the Revell kit looks good enough for me.

I don’t know. I think you have too many rivets on the side. Just kidding[:D] looks nice.

Grizz

Rob

Nice to see one of your builds. Big fingers and old eyes keep me more on the 1/35 side but I like the “little bugger”.

Even though its small the good build makes it look big.

Rounds Complete!!

Very nice, ROb! Good to see some “Braille Scale” being posted!

Can I ask, why is the hood green? Is this normal in the field? Like, is it a mod or something? I would have expected it all in the same color?

This is an old build from over a year ago. Someone just replied to it recently. If by hood, you mean the canvas cab and doors, originally all of our HMMWVs were 3-color NATO camouflaged and the canvas softtops and cargo covers came only in forest green. After Desert Storm, when we started painting trucks and tanks sand, the canvas covers were still green. It was around 1992 or 93 when the canvas covers started being made in sand.

The above color scheme was very common in the 1990s. I got a sand colored cab top and cargo cover in about 1994.

Thanks Rob. Ive read your review including HeavyArty’s HMMWV review in Armorama.

ive been inspired that I started to build my Dragon M1025 w/ASK. I think some scratchbuilding can be done, an air cleaner, the windshield washer and some tubes, wires, but i have to cut the hood to separate it from the body. I’ve also made some panels to show the BFT viewscreen and keypad. I will try to post my WIP.

Nicky

Cool! I didn’t know that, Rob! I’ll file that in “Modern Armor Dont-Forgets”!!

Thanks for the info! [;)]

Wow, 1/72? Amazing. Well done sir. I remember that scheme. It was horrible. I remember motorpool taking sand paint and experimenting with sand-washing the green. Ugg.

Sir Rob, I hope you wont mind me posting my HMMWV.

This is what I made with my braille Dragon HMMWV M1025.

Im trying to build-up the engine, I’ve detached the hood to show the details and separate the oil pan as a start up to scratchbuilding the V8.
