Nice build! How was that kit? I know it’s an old mold so I can probably guess the level of detail and fit but you sure did a nice job with it. And I like that base too.
Very nice! She just looks so fast.
Don’t get to see that one too often.
Suprisingly the kit was not as bad as I thought it might be. The plastic was softer than by todays standards but flash was minimal. The only areas that needed some attention was where the wing joins the fuselage at the top. Some Acryl Blue applied in layers and sanded and contoured between layers to blend it in was no major task. Just a little time and patience. The pain in the butt area was where the exhaust cones attact to the nacelles. Some joint filling but due to the close quarters between the exhaust cones it took quite a bit of time to get the seam filled, sanded and blended to look just right. I always thought that this particular flying boat had "The Look " to it. Too bad it never made it too far.
Wow, never seen that one built up before! Excellent work. How did you acheive that super-smooth gloss finish?
The Blue is MM Sea Blue. The underside is Insignia White. I sprayed some of the Blue and the White on some scrap plastic I had and than after drying a few days spryed some High Gloss Clear Lacquer over the Blue and White scrap pieces. Since Lacquer will attack enamel if your not careful, I applied some Floquil " Barrier " over the enamel before spraying the Lacquer Clear Gloss. The " Barrier " is supposed to seal the enamel to protect it from a Lacquer finish. I bought a few bottles years ago but never tried it. Thought I’d give it a whirl. It works great. Can’t find it anynore. I think Floquil discontinued it. Luckily I have a few bottles left. They took away a good thing.
Nice work, Dennis. I like the old Revell kits. It may be fond memories, but the fit on them was not bad when they were new.
Beautiful Bird Dennis & a very nice display [tup]. I believe Floquil Barrier was discontinued several years ago when Testors aquired Floquil. Prior to that aquisition, Floquil was a fairly hot lacquer & the Barrier was needed when painting styrene. After Testors take-over, the Floquil line was reformulated as enamel & the need for Barrier went away.
Regards, Rick
Very nice! Love the finish too.[tup]
RJK, Did not know about the acquisition of Floquil by Testors or the re-formulation of the Floquil line of paints. Thanks for the update. If I understand you correctly, than I assume that the Floquil line of products are not as hot as they used to be. Is that correct? Thanks again for the update as I use the Floquil line of products quite often.
