Revell Germany 1/72 Lightning F Mk6 read before buying!!

Jt an FYI to all you modelers out there…

I was excted when the “new” Revell Germany Lightning was announced, and eagerly awaited its arrival. I purchased it as soon as it became available, looking forward to a version with quality like the Hunter or Eurofighters etc…

BIG dissapointment. I layed down in excess of $20 for what looks like a Heller kit from around 1980…HEAVY raised panel lines…poor detail…even that old funky “silver” plastic…

Don’t waste your money…the old Hasegawa kit is still much better…

Thanks for the heads up!![C):-)]

No it isn’t, the Hasegawa Lightning and the Revell one are one and the same. The Hasegawa Lightning has its history tied up in old Frog moldings.

In 1/72 BAC Lightning fans should be happy in the not too distant future; MPM has announced a new tooled F.3 and I’ve heard that both Trumpeter and Academy may be doing new tooled 1/72 Lightnings in the next year or two.

As for older Lightning kits in 1/72, the Matchbox kits are still the best. Why Revell would choose to reissue the old Hasegawa/Frog kit when they possess the old Matchbox molds is beyond my comprehension. At least if they reissued the Matchbox kits, they could follow up with the trainer variants.

Revell should be ashamed of themselves for reissuing that particular lightning kit.

It is, in fact, the old Hasegawa kit re-boxed with better decals. Whether you think the better decals are worth the extra money, compared to the Hasegawa kit, is up to you. Remember that both MPM and Trumpeter are supposed to be bringing out 1/72 EE Lightnings this year.

Cheers,

Chris.

Thanks for the heads up, but I knew it wasn’t going to be new tool, so I didn’t even bother. If a kit is new tool, RoG will usually announce that it is.

When I saw it on Revell’s website and the IPMS Germany site as a future release and they both mentioned “Cooperation: Hasegawa” I knew exactly what was coming.[V]
