This is a cracker of a kit, Hans. I’ve built one over christmas and just loved it. Plenty of detail and options, full stencil decals etc and all in register. The cockpit is very nicely done with plenty of detail. I intend to get another and build it with the wings folded.
I had no problems at all with the fit, apart from letting my concentration slip which resulted in a slight mismatch with the starboard wingroot on the fueselage and belly join which means that the starboard wing does have a slight gap when fitted in place… but it was my fault and not the kit!
Finished in seaplane colours of RLM 72/73/65.1
This retails here in the UK for £24.99 (original release was £19.99, but we had a VAT (sales tax, to the Yanks) increase to 20% from 17.5!

The paints used are Vallejo model color, brush painted and shade matched to ORIGINAL LUFTWAFFE paint chips which I have on loan until May.
Camera used: Nikon D700. 24-70 F2.8 lens, photographed in natural daylight.
THis should be on your must have a go list. It should retail in the US for 30-35 USD, any more is a rip off and is a sweet build with bags of detail and options. Not to be rushed, but to be enjoyed and thought about. The reason I say this is that you need to make a decision before you start… wings folded or extended and panels open or closed. This means that you have to approach the build differently. If you fold the wings then you will need to paint and stencil the wings and fuselage seperatley BEFORE putting them together. Any other way brings to mind sayings about creeks, paddles, canoes and LOTS of really bad language when reality sets in.
This should not be much of a problem to a modeller with experience who has the foresight to think first, read the flaming manual, think again and go “AAAAAAHHHHH!!!” or Ohhhhhhhh! Riiiiiigggghhhhtttt!" rather than crashing into the build and then eventually go… “AaaaaaaaaaaaAAAAAAAAAAGGGGGGGGGHHHH!” followed be a string of four letter words than when printed looks like:

I did that with their 1/32 JU-88 kit and eventually consigned it to the “Heap De Rubbish!” And all because I was excited and started rushing and not thinking!
Revell are coming out with some cracking 1/32 kits at the moment at some fantastic prices. Their JU-88 is a great kit, and I look forwards to their HE-111 with anticipation.
If you are like me. Hans and do it for the enjoyment and fun of the hobby, but with the determination to get it right, you will like this. DON’T MISS OUT!

Yep. A 1/32 OS2U with this kind of attention to detail would be stellar.
Though, honestly, I wouldn’t mind seeing the old 1/48 Monogram kit reissued with a somewhat improved cockpit. Got one sitting in the stash at the moment with LSM’s cockpit, cowl, engine, and accurately sized float.
There’s an after-market resin & PE cockpit set for the Monogram Kingfisher out there… Dunno what it costs, but I’d venture a guess that it’d be more than the cost of the kit…
If you can find it, the “High-Tech” version of the Kingfisher is pretty good to… It includes a fret of PE for the rear cockpit, gun mount and ring sight, and engine ignition wiring harness, along with steps, float bracing-wires, and some other fiddly-bits…
Now that would kicka$$!!! If it came out at the same(ish) price, I’d order it right outta the gate, rather than waiting for it to show up on a vendor table for $20, like I know the 196 will!!!
If Revell keeps coming out with these great kits in 1/32nd at these prices, it’s gonna cost me a LOT of money to build an addition!
Yeah, that’s exactly what I’ve got all around. Built the high-tech kit in my past modeling life, and it was the first kit I ever tried a water diorama with, so I kinda want to do the same this time around.
The Lone Star Models resin is more than the cost of the kit…I went whole hog, which I think came in around $50 in resin. Wouldn’t typically go so crazy, but the OS2U holds a special place in my heart.
I’ve been patiently waiting for this kit to arrive at the mailorder stores. We had a death in the family and drove down to Ft. Lauderdale for the funeral. Afterwards I had the time to sneak out to one of the hobby shops and just happened to find one for $33! Its a beauty of a model. It has a super detailed full engine just screaming for wires and other thingies. The cockpit detail is mind blowing!! You even have the option to fold up the wings and even a nice round plastic display base is included. The details are crisp and sharp. The decal sheet provides markings for two machines. All you need is a bit of additional detailing and you can have a show winner. My hat goes off to Revell of Germany!
If you like this Arado, Just wait until you see the HE-111 due in May.
For cockpit colour call outs just watch the Battle of Britain Movie. Plenty of HE-111 cockpit shots there… I know they’re spanish built, but the interior is the same colours as the original with all the buttonsknobs dials etc… I think… just let me get the DVD out!
