While my mom was out in germany she suprised me and bought me two new kits. There both Revell kits. One’s the 1/72 F4-F Phantom II, and the other’s the 1/48 Messerschmitt Bf 109 G-10. I was wondering if anybody has any experiance with these kits. They both look pretty simple but I guess thats good in my unpracticed state. The F4-F is definetly a nicer kit though. The engraved panels on the 109 are HUGE.
Anyway I’m going to be posting a build log of sorts with pictures sometime soon, I just have to restock on supplies. Unfortunatly I still dont have an airbrush…
I’ve never built the F-4 in question, but I have the Bf-109(back when it was still just Monogram). Its a decent kit, pretty accurate too.Has most of the details of the G-10, except for the bulged wheels I think, its been at least ten years since I built it . Hope this helps.
I’ve always wanted to do this particular Phantom in 1/32 just because of the markings.
As for the G-10, it’s a nice little kit, and although it’s not a Tamiya or Hasegawa kit, can still hold it’s own against other kits with a little TLC. I built two for Floyd Werner’s 109-Bf 109s at last years IPMS Nats. I’ll post a few images later on.
That looks like the F-4’s I used to build from Revell back in the 70’s. Different markings, but the parts look the same. Wonder if it’s basically the same mold?
I built a TON of those. I recall they had sets of 4 for the Thunderbirds and Blue Angels. Had a stand to put them all on so they’d fly in formation.
I have built the 109’ kit. It is a decent example for the price. It is typical of the basic R/M 1/48 WW2 fighter offerings. I am happy with mine I seem to remember the fit was OK, no putty or major sanding needed.
Yeah, the color scheme is really nice. Alot of the colors I bought were a bit off though, thanks to revells weird way of naming colors… At least the outside is going to be pretty acurate. Hopefully RLM 23 is “carmin red”. It also said “grey”, so I bought ocean grey. Oh well…
The conversion tables I found on the internet weren’t very helpfull.
The new RoG F-4F is light years better than those old F-4 kits we built as kids. It’s a gorgeous model and goes together well. You will really enjoy building it.
Got the cockpit tub finished today… I’m not that good, keep in mind I’m only 12:
I cant belive how careless I was, I cut the control stick for the upper cockpit off with an exacto knife, but I forgot to hold on to the part. So then it flew about half way across the room. So I had to take one of those plastic thingys that conect tags to clothes, I bent it, and used that as a controll stick… Its way too short and doesnt look to good but I guess its better then nothing at all.
First of all don,t make excuses for your work. Truth be know half of us on this site arn,t that good eather, including me. My dad taught me" there is no sin in trying to do something abd fail, you can always do it over again the real sin lies in failing to try!!
Ok, well thanks for the input. I’m almost done with the forward fuse and I’ll post a picture when I’m done. The fit of the parts is great, but there was a big gap in the fuse section that fits between the two seats, so I had to fill it which was hard because it was between two seats. One question, what color would the inside of the intake be? White? Does it blend with the outside color or does is there a hard line?
And when I’m painting things white, I have to do about 6 coats, and then theres alot of paint on the parts, and on the sides of raised detail there is still a bit plastic showing underneath (for instance the landing gear bay). Also the paint gets bubbly. I’m brush painting. Is there anyway to avoid this without doing like 10 coats? I had the same probelm when I was painting the body of an IL-2 Sturmovik.
Any other comments or sugestions… criticism also welcome.
Ok I have another question, where th intake goes over the body (sorta hard to explain), its gonne be really hard to paint once the model is assembled. Should I paint it now? Any tips for areas like these?
It wouldn’t hurt to paint the backside of the intake and the fuselage behind it before putting the intake pieces on. You are right, its very hard to paint once it’s together.
