I need some feedback guys and girls;
Posted something about this kit a while back. Said it was going o.k. Well, things changed. Followed the directions to the letter. When I got to the part where the instrument panel was supposed to go in, it wouldn’t. The control stick was in the way. Had a heck of a time. Finally had to enlist the help of my wife and her small fingers. I thought o.k. Then I got to the folding wings. Disappointed to find a horrendous amount of flash. Fit is bad after the lash is cleaned up. Thinking of setting this one aside for a while until either my patience or my modeling skills increase. Has anyone else experienced this?
Thanks
Steve
i experienced it with the revell P-40. i’d say its under somewhere around 30tons of garbage out at the local landfill. i did get some airbrushing practice on it for a while though. the fit and detail was horrific to say the least. so, i gave it another chance and purchased the revell F-14 tomcat and experienced the same thing. chunked it as well. i’m not big on sanding and filling so i prefer to pay a little extra for hasegawa and tamiya. i’ve heard good things about academy kits and will try one of those out next. later.
Built one a long time ago. Don’t recall any problem with the IP, but I usually don’t put the control sticks in until last so may have avoided your problem. I built the wings extended and that was a problem as the fit wasn’t very good & filling, sanding the corrugated wings was a nightmare. As I recall there were other fit problems, especially with the maintenance panels which I wanted closed. I was never happy with my build, but it’s the only Devastator in 1/48. Maybe AM will do a modern tool kit, after they release the promised Vindicator. Just wishful thinking I’m afraid.
I’ve had a couple of crappy Revell kits in the past, so now I won’t touch them
Well as far as AM is concerned Id much rather see a B17 before a Devastator. I have the said Devastator kit but havent started construction I hope that my build goes better. good luck st_gorder fixing your kit.
Thanks saltydog,rjk, Chris,and 9x19mm; for the sympathy.
Steve
Do you mean the Monogram 1/48 scale Devastator? When I built that I had fit problems between the wings and fuselage, but it came out O.K. in the end. The interior wasn’t that crisp. Some company needs to release a resin interior for the TBD.
To bad AM won’t do a Devastator AND a B-17. That would be cool!
Ian;
That’s the one!
