Can anyone tell me what year the Revell B-17F Memphis Belle was made by the kit number? The kit number is H-201:198. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks, Ed.
What scale, 1/72 or 1/48? Your kit number looks like a 1/72 to me.
IIR the 1/72 scale kit was first made in the mid 1960s and has been re-boxed several times as the Belle. The 1/48 scale kit was made in the late 60 to early 70s but I cannot remember when it was boxed as the Belle. There is a kit collectors guide that has the info you are looking for but I do not have a copy. Anybody? I buy em’ to build em’, it is just that the “to-build” list keeps growing exponentially!
Sorry I didnt get back sooner, had to go offline a bit. Its 1/72 scale and the instructions have a copyright date of 1962, but I know there were a couple of reissues. I`m going to build this kit, but was just curious if it was an original issue. Thanks,Ed.
I remember building that thing when it first came out. For it’s time it was a good kit and like everything I built in those days, it was built OOB. The one thing I didn’t like was the way the model “sat” when it was finished - just didn’t look right - finally figured out both MLGs were about 1/8" too short. Have fun building it.
I also remember building the 1/72 Revell B-17 and B-24 way back then in the early 60’s. They were “detailed” kits compared to others at the time.

the Revell B-17F 1/48 scale came out around 1977 to 1979 era, the 1/72 scale was closer to the early 1960’s, but I highly recommend you buy the Academy’s or Hasegawa’s B-17’s in 1/72 scale
Thanks for the input on the MLG and the detail. I think this is going to be an interesting build. Not sure whether I`m going with the Memphis Belle build or another bird from early in the war. I have decals for several early F models including the Belle. Thanks again for the input. Ed.
