Revell 1/96 Scale Saturn V Rocket

I have hunted for this model for some time. I found one and paid $170. I have been working on it for about 2 weeks. I don’t have much model building experience but I want to do the best job on it that I can. I have purchased an airbrush and have been practicing. Any advice on how to build this to it most potential would be greatly appreciated. I have already run into issues cross referencing Revell paints. Should I just stick to the instructions and pictures on the box or customize it in some way? Thanks in advance for any and all advice.

pricey model, and having just picked up an airbrush, there is a learning curve. I might suggest getting a cheap kit or two and just practice painting and stuff.

As far as how to do it, it’s really up to you. Many people (myself included) will look for pictures and other relevant references and attempt to recreate a real part of history. Others might get creative and try to reproduce an imaginary scenario. Auto models often look factory new with a bright shiny finish.

There is a forum just for painting and airbrushing. You might check that out. There are frequent threads on tips and problems with airbrushing.

There are also aftermarket kits available to properly detail the model.

The NASA web site is a good place for reference pictures. There’s also this one . It might be a good idea to pick a misison and do a specific search. That’s what I did for my LM5 (Apollo 11) project, Did the same for my current Gemini 12. I don’t know if the Saturn V had major differences , my Saturn V kit is still unbuilt so I can’t help you there.

Keep us posted on your progress…
