I got my pre-ordered U-boat delivered today. [:D]
I love this kit. HUGE!
After 8 months of waiting!
I get mine at my local Hobby shop next Wed!
Yippie!
I have one in UPS’ hands and on its way, my “backup” order will be here in 2 weeks.
Got mine off the FedEx truck yesterday [^][tup][tup][wow]. I’m going to need a bigger work bench[(-D].
I’m still waiting for my LHS to get it in.
Is it really THAT big?
It’s BIG. The hull is 3 feet long, the box is 37 in long x 10 in wide x 5 in high.
I got mine on Wednesday, but I hope everyone else who got one is having better luck with theirs. Several pieces were boken off the sprues as well as several broken pieces. The cutter on the bow was broken in two and the rail around the rear of the conning tower was broken in six pieces, ugg!!!. I still plan on getting more of them and the Iliad decals though.
Sorry to hear about that crusadernut [:(]
Was yours a walk in Hobby Shop deal or was it shipped to you by a Hobby shop or on line order outfit?
I have heard that the packaging could have been better…but I bet ya…Heavier packaging would mean more cost to us.
I got mine from Squadron, and happy to report no broken pieces. Very nice looking kit.
Hey, lets sing a song. It’s called I hate you guys.
I hate you guys…you guys are [censored]…especially Troy…I hate him the most…Ok now lets try one all together…you guys know the words.
Just kidding Troy, I’m still waiting on mine and really feeling a little left out now.[V] I WANT MY U-BOAT!
I received mine from Squadron today. FedEx managed to bang it up pretty good. The result was that the bow of one of the hull halves was bent over, cracked and about 1/2" of it was either short shot or missing. Judging from the damage I believe broken off. I insured it so I’m sure Squadron will replace the piece or whatever.
My initial comment is that there is great opportunity for some nice photoetch work for the deck. I have to believe that WEM is on the job! And you just have to open up all those flood holes! It would also be nice to see somebody do some resin under deck stuff so that some of those hatches can be opened up.
Have fun boys!
Dave
Yep WEM IS on the job drool slobber, also our respected member Mr Herne I have a link for all you guys out there go to the U boat web www.uboatnet click onto forums and then go to the modelling section, there is quite a bit being produced a guy in Japan is making periscope shrouds 8.8cm deck gun 2cm Flack and 3.7cm Flack all in metal he he he Das Booty is going to double in price!!
Hope this is of some use
Nick[:D]
Hey! Thats a cool song! …but make sure to leave the part out about me in Montana with the goats ok? [:p]
I plan on opening up the tower hatch and galley Hatch and build just what you would see from above with some lighting.
Does anyone have any idea what the inner hull looks like in reference to the outer hull?
…in other words…just trying to get an idea on how and where to place the inner hull after drilling out all those dang vent holes.
I can’t wait! and that darn 1/48 CH46 Sea Knight is out this April as well…AHHHHH!!! My job is interering with my HOBBY!
Hi papa echo,Yep get hold of anatomy of a ship type V11 U Boat by David Westwood @Amazon.com.
inside the cover there is a 1.125 plan of the boat stick in on the copier and zap it up, also inside there are some brilliant schematic drawings that should give an idea of the dimensions of the pressure hull gap from deck etc.
Drilling the vent holes out is fun(not) be carefull when you get to the stern of the boat as some of the drains do not go all the way through, might be better to just use a black ink pen for these, also look at the wwww.U-Boat net some great pics there if you haven’t already done so,hope this is of help. While you are visiting the U Boat net take a look at the pictures of U 995 at Laboe should give you some good reference material, its also a free site, I know at Birkenhead U-534 is a Type IXC slightly different configuration but the pics there will give you an idea of what is under the deck.

Hi papa echo, mine was a walk in purchase at a Hobbyland in Columbus Oh. I think some one at the shipping company stood there and shook the box until they heard some pieces bouncing around(ha ha). I was lucky though, mine wasn,t as bad as weebles described his. The hull halves were not damaged. Iv’e already started building it anyway.
[^]Fed Ex delivered mine from Squadron yesterday in fine shape.
[:(!]Has anyone else in the US had the thrill of trying to purchase metric (.5mm, 1mm, 2mm) drill bits?[banghead] The VII-C plans call for holes in those sizes to be drilled for rigging, net cutter, etc. [V]Unfortunately[:(]all the hardware stores and hobby shops, and model RR shops in Phoenix carry small drill bits all the [censored]things are in 1/1000-inch (.oo1") incremental sizes–not metric. I’ve translated the metric as closely as possible to this type measure and the numbered (#60, etc.) wire-guage-sized bits, but it is inexact and a real pain[|(]!
Do you folks in the metric-using world have similar problems with kits using US measures?[]

www.uboat.net - is anyone else besides me getting an error when attempting to go to that URL? (“This account has been suspended?”)
