Revell 1/72 Fokker D VII re-do!

I finished one of these not to long ago but was not overly pleased with the results.

It is a quite inexpensive model so I figured I would give it a second chance and build it a second time.

Not going to bother with the box shots etc you can see those in the previous build log. But the kit arrived today and is already taking a bath. Should have some progress photos soon!

Some minor progress…

The colors used. I was very pleased with the flat blue. It will have a nice texture once the laquer is applied. The red does not cover the dark blue as you will soon see. Had it to do again I would lay down the red first. Also the red has a dramatic color shift once it dries. Check the photos of later progress to see what I mean. It goes on almost orange.

That’s the first coat of red on the fuse and it was pretty heavy by my standards.

Soon its on to decaling as soon as I finish the white trim… soon!

I have about 10 of these kits! Got a sheet of Pheon Decals to do an entire flight of Jasta 18!

I recent “inherited” a huge box of biplanes. I may try one eventually. I look forward to your progess here.

I usually try not chime i unless asked, but you seem to really want to get this one closer to a version you are comfortable with. I can offer a couple of pointers. This profile represents a hyothetical version of Hauptmann R. Berthold’s late Schwerin Built Fokker D.VII. The empty white space on the top wing was filled with a dark version of the Winged sword like the white ones on the fuselage. We know from combat reports and persional diaries that still exist. If you are interested in Berthold, Jasta 15 or 18 or JG II in general see;

The only image of Berthold’s Fokker D.VII is an early type with less louvres and Fokker camo streaking on the fuselage. We do know as a JG Cmdr he had several assigned to him up through the end of the war.

For a little more detail on him here is a bio that is pretty accurate.
