Completed my 1/72 Revell Fokker D-VII last weekend and finally getting around to posting it. It was only $3 at Great Models Webstore, so the lack of interior and other minor flaws can’t justifiably be harped on. The one major complaint I had about this kit has to do with the finishing options. There is no way this got OK’ed by a modeler! Revell provided empty lozenge shapes with the expectations that the modeler color in the shapes - in 1/72 no less! I provided a scan of the decals and finishing page to help better explain. Luckily I had spare lozenge in the stash. Beside that, it was a fun little build that only took a couple weekends and looks good alongside my two 1/72 Dr.1’s.
Looks very nice. You 1:72 guys amaze me. I happen to have a Monogram D.VII (1:48) on my bench right now, and it needs lots of work, but hey it was free.
Thanks for the kind words. I have a 1/72 Roden D-VIII in mid build, but it is getting shelved for the time being. Need to re-stock some patience first, I foresee those twiggly little struts giving me a hard time.
Nice little build! [tup] I have six of Revell’s Camels in the stash that I bought for a buck each. I hope they turn out as nice as yours did. Thanks for the look.
Nicely done! I remember building this kit some time ago, andy very well remember painting the lozenge pattern… It’s kind of a meditative exercise - but I prefer this kind of work to spending hours flash-removing, filing, sanding, etc…
Here’s a couple of pics of mine I did a few years ago. The decals are of a Lithuanian Air Force D.VII from 1919. They “imported” (smuggled) a bunch of incomplete airframes and spare parts from Germany after the war. They had to sneak them in because the Versailles treaty forbade anyone but the allies from getting any. They went on to copy the design and build a few more of their own from scratch.
